Oceania gains second TFT Worlds slot ahead of Gizmos & Gadgets Championship

Date:

Oceania will be sending two representatives to the Teamfight Tactics (TFT) World Championship for Gizmos & Gadgets, with the region gaining a second slot in the tournament’s 32-player expansion.

Oceania is used to losing opportunities in esports.

However, back-to-back Top 8 performances in the TFT World Championship — first by Razza in Set 4 and then Escha in Set 5 — has seen the region get a huge leg-up in the Riot-developed autobattler.

As part of the TFT Gizmos & Gadgets Championship’s expansion to 32 players — up from 20 at the Reckoning tournament six months ago — Oceania has gained a second slot.

The top two players from April’s Regional Finals will compete in the $300,000 USD tournament for a shot at the nearly $50,000 USD first prize.

It’s a reward not just for the ever-growing TFT scene, but also for Oceanic players who have punched above their weight at global events.

The other 12 bonus slots were spread across the other seven regions, with no concessions being made to SEA players in time for the Set 6 championship.

A newly-formed Asian Cup (for Japan, Korea, and China) and Western LCQ (excluding Oceania) has also given major regions a chance to fight for more slots ahead of the Championship.

The TFT Gizmos & Gadgets Championship for Set 6 is set to kick off on April 29, with games starting at 7PM AEST across the weekend of April 29 to May 1.

Before then, the two representatives will be decided during the TFT Oceania Gizmos & Gadgets Regional Finals on April 1-3. You can catch the action live on the official Teamfight Tactics Twitch channel starting at 6pm AEDT / AEST each night.
