De fire siste italienske AMX-jetflyene, som skal bli med i fremtidens "Flying Museum", når endelige pensjoneringsdestinasjon

Den nylige pensjoneringen av de fire siste operative AMX-flyene fra Istrana markerer avslutningen på deres 35-årige tjeneste hos det italienske flyvåpenet. Disse flyene blir med i den historiske flygende samlingen på Piacenza flyplass.

11. april 2024 forlot de fire siste operative AMX ACOL-flyene, inkludert enkeltseteren med en spesiell farge for å feire Phase Out of the type, pilotert av oberst Emanuele Chiadroni, sjef for 51° Stormo (Wing) Istrana AB for Piacenza Air Base, hvor de offisielt ble pensjonert og overtatt av den lokale flyplassavdelingen.

Landingen på Piacenza markerte slutten på den operative tjenesten til AMX Ghibli (uoffisielt kallenavnet "Topone" - italiensk for "Big Mouse") etter 35 års tjeneste.

A singel trener forblir i tjeneste med det italienske flyvåpenets RSV (Reparto Sperimentale Volo – Italian Air Force Test Wing), ved Pratica di Mare Air Base: den vil fly i hvert fall til neste høst; da bør den tas ut av bruk og gjøres om til en portvokter (eller tildeles ItAF-museet).

De fire flyene tok av i denne rekkefølgen: MM7162/51-34, MM7197/51-46, MM55044/51-82, MM55043/51-81.

Etter avgangen gjennomførte kvartetten et siste pass over basen før de dro vestover mot Piacenza, jaget av en Eurofighter.

På vei til Piacenza gikk "Grappa-formasjonen" sammen med Frecce Tricolori og en C-130J (med den åpne rampen for å ta noen bilder før den historiske siste landingen).

Piacenza

Etter å ha ønsket velkommen HH-212 helikoptre fra Grazzanise som nylig ble pensjonert etter over 40 års tjeneste, vil Piacenza lagre de fire pensjonerte AMX-ene.

Ved å henvende seg til lokale institusjoner, bedrifter, fagfolk og medierepresentanter under velkomstseremonien presenterte basesjefen, T. Col. Salvatore Occini, de nåværende og fremtidige planene for flyplassen.

Occini fremhevet basens overgang fra utelukkende operasjonelle oppgaver til også å inkludere restaurering og bevaring av historiske fly. Spesielt, a Fiat G-91, restaurert med et spesielt Frecce-liveri, ble vellykket returnert til flukt for Air Force's Centenary Air Show i juni 2023, takket være ekspertisen til basens stab og samarbeid med spesialiserte sivile teknikere.

Kommandør for den 1. luftregionen, general Vestito, understreket betydningen av Piacenza-basen i luftforsvaret, og fremhevet dens operative beredskap demonstrert ved ankomsten av AMX-ene. Han understreket basens strategiske betydning for ulike aktiviteter, inkludert operative utplasseringer, trening, øvelser og forskning i luftfarts- og bilsektoren, og utnytter eksisterende synergier med institusjonelle, universitets- og industrielle partnere.

Det flygende museum

Når vi ser fremover, utforsker Forsvaret prosjekter for å omdanne Piacenza militærflyplass til et flygende museum, slik at luftfartsentusiaster og historikere kan sette pris på disse eiendelene, inkludert å se dem under flukt, som har spilt en sentral rolle i Forsvarets hundreårsjubileumshistorie.
