There have been rumors circulating that Rocket League will be getting shut down following the removal of the game from MacOS and Linux systems.

In March of 2020, Rocket League was removed from MacOS and Linux systems with Pysonix saying in a statement, “…We’ll be updating our Windows version from 32-bit to 64-bit later this year, as well as updating to DirectX11 from DirectX9… Unfortunately, our MacOS and Linux native clients depend on our DX9 implementation for their OpenGL renderer to function. When we stop supporting DX9, those clients stop working…”

Players were issued refunds because of this choice and the technical issues the Rocket League developers were facing.

Because of this, many players are speculating that the game’s lifetime will run shorter than many thought and assumed this meant the game would eventually leave all platforms.

Thankfully for players, these rumors are false. Rocket League will not be shutting down anytime soon.

RSG game art studio reports that, with the new game art, this game will become even more appealing to players. And it will gain a new audience.

It seems that players have gotten a little mixed up considering the technical problems facing MacOS and Linux.

With Epic Games now owning the title, the game’s lifetime will most likely be extended for a long while and, as of this moment, Rocket League is still going strong, with a McLaren x Rocket League collab taking place currently.
