Hoe kan ik mijn wiettolerantie verminderen?

Datum:

One of the most frustrating things about enjoying an activity that alters your brain chemistry is that your tolerance is definitely going to build. After a while your brain is going to get used to what you are pumping into it and suddenly you’ll have to spend the same amount of money and do the same amount of smoking without even nearly the same high. This can obviously lead to increased smoking, which will only lead to an increased tolerance. So what can you do to avoid becoming too tolerant or, if it’s too late, how can you reset your tolerance?

Why Does Tolerance Increase?

So cannabis tolerance isn’t exactly the same as other drugs, mostly because it just doesn’t work in the same way. Usually with alcohol etc the size of you vs the amount of drug ingested is what dictates how messed up you get. This isn’t the same with weed at all. A huge man could get high way faster than a small woman even if they both smoke regularly. Your body also adapts extremely quickly to THC because of the way it alters your brain chemistry. I’ve done a lot on the endocannabinoid system so have a look through our previous articles or do your own research if you want a detailed explanation. The way that THC is recognised by our body means that our brain will react to moderate how much THC is getting up in your business. This will have different effects on your appetite or how you perceive reality. This simply means that the more often you put THC into the endocannabinoid system the faster your brain should work to moderate how high you actually get.

How Fast Does This Happen?

This totally depends on the individual and how often they smoke. I’ve had a terrible tolerance since I was a teenager because I don’t smoke too often and I naturally get high super easily. This also showcases how quickly your tolerance can drop, I smoke semi-regularly and still absolutely not an ounce of tolerance. So depending on the strength of the weed, your own body, and how much you are smoking your tolerance can build ridiculously quickly. If you started smoking and went straight into a few joints a day every day you will likely increase your tolerance within a week. And eventually this means that you are just going to become almost fully tolerant. Obviously the entire point of smoking is getting at least a little high. So you could change up your strains, start smoking more, or smoking something much stronger, but honestly that’s likely to just be more of an issue in the long run. Luckily for most people tolerance can drop almost as quickly as it builds, well maybe.

Taking A T Break

This is the most common way for people to drop their tolerance back down. It’s literally just a break from smoking weed. Unfortunately it can take a little longer for your tolerance to drop than to build. The average amount of time that it takes for your body to totally detox from THC is 21 days. This is the only way to reset your tolerance and anything less might work for some but certainly won’t work for everyone. There will also likely be quite a few of you out there who have absolutely no interest in taking that much time off smoking. Though this is the most effective if you want to get back to feeling like you’ve never smoked before, there are a few other options available to lower your tolerance without quitting.

Monitor Your THC Input

This pretty much means that you smoke strains that are far higher in CBD than they are in THC. This is a fantastic option for anyone that struggles with withdrawal symptoms while taking a break from smoking often. I know that you can’t technically get physically addicted to cannabis but mental addiction is definitely a thing and for some just stopping isn’t a healthy or effective option. This will help with withdrawal whilst also slowly lowering your tolerance. It might take a little longer but you will eventually get the same result while still being able to smoke.

One Hitters

A one hitter, otherwise known as a chillum, is considered by many to be the best way to lower your tolerance without completely quitting. This is basically a great way to microdose weed. Microdosing is often implemented by people who use cannabis to help with mental health issues. It gives a lot of the effects of cannabis but often without the high caused by THC. So you can get help with appetite, pain suppression, reducing anxiety, etc. If you feel like going cold turkey is bad for your health or is just going to cause a binge you can microdose to top up what your brain is looking for while letting your tolerance drop.

It’s super easy to get a small and portable one hitter that you can microdose with wherever you are.  After having a little look I found that the most popular chillum is by a company called pijl. This thing is super easy to use, has a scent proof canister for your ground weed, a small one hitter and a larger one. It’s also metal and shiny which I enjoy.

Potential Withdrawal

Before deciding which version  you want to try, or something as simple as just smoking less often, you should be aware of the potential withdrawal symptoms that can come with completely cutting weed.

  • verminderde eetlust
  • Hoofdpijn
  • Moeite met slapen
  • Maagproblemen
  • Powerful and vivid dreams
  • Stemmingswisselingen

None of these are definite and there will likely be different symptoms for different people. However, if after you stop you realise you are experiencing these symptoms you may want to choose one of the less cutting down options. This may also be a good place to speak to a doctor or an addiction specialist if you experience extreme withdrawal. It’s possible you might want to look at other options to prevent health issues in the future.
