Amazon.com to expand US workforce, hire 1,50,000 seasonal workers

Datum:

While last year Amazon had made about one lakh seasonal hires, this year it is planning to hire 1,50,000 seasonal workers ahead of the holiday season.

At a time when there is labour shortage in the US, Amazon has already hiked the average starting wage to over $18 per hour. The demand for seasonal workers is expected to be the maximum in Illinois, Georgia, Colorado, Florida, California and Arizona.

The e-commerce giant will hire over 20,000 seasonal workers in California, over 6,000 in Arizona and more than 4,000 in Illinois. It will also be hiring for various roles in Virginia, Ohio, Texas, Tennessee, Maryland, Oregon, New York, Michigan, New Jersey, Minnesota, Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
These new hires will be required to work at the more than 250 new fulfilment and sortation centres, delivery stations, as well as regional air hubs that have been established in the US this year.
They will help Amazon make deliveries on time. The Company also hopes to allow flexibility to its full-time employees during this rush season.
Meanwhile, in the UK, Amazon has started hiring to fill about 20,000 seasonal vacancies ahead of Christmas.

In India, about three weeks ago, Amazon had announced that it had created over 1,10,000 seasonal jobs across its operations network, ahead of the festive season.

These new hires will contribute to the picking, packing, shipping and delivery processes, and make the existing Amazon associates’ network in the country more efficient, ensuring safe and quick deliveries.
