Nintendo CEO confirms Switch production is struggling to meet demand

Published

on

Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa’s predictions came true. In a recent Q&A with investors, he confirmed that the company is unable to meet the current demand on the market, leading to a shortage of Switch consoles.

This is due to the ongoing semiconductor shortage that’s impacting every modern console and a lot of prominent technology on the market.

Originally, Furukawa thought Nintendo had secured the necessary materials to meet demand, but that has since changed. Now, the company faces the same issue that has left both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles scarce on shelves.

“Demand for hardware continues to exceed our expectations even after the beginning of this calendar year, and production has currently not caught up to this high demand due to the tight supply and demand situation for semiconductor materials worldwide,” Furukawa said. “Although we are currently striving to produce as many units as possible, the fact is that our production plans are more uncertain than they were at the beginning of previous fiscal years.”

Furukawa also said Nintendo’s originally forecasted 25.50 million units of hardware shipments for the new fiscal year might be in danger unless the company can “secure the materials necessary for production.”

This semiconductor shortage impacts several other industries too, including the manufacturing of cars, phones, computers, TVs, and many other electronics.

Sony recently said the company is prepared for the PS5 to remain in short supply for the remainder of the year and into 2022. Similar shortages will likely impact Xbox consoles and other high-end GPUs from companies like Nvidia and AMD, preventing its RTX 3080 and RX 6800 XT graphics cards from reaching consumers.

Furukawa confirmed that demand for Switch hardware remains consistent throughout most regions, specifically noting that sales in the U.S. were high in March and “the supply of hardware is currently not keeping up with the strong demand.”

Sky Striker wins big, Dragon Link and Dinosaur drop with June’s Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Forbidden and Limited Card list

Published

on

Every few months, Konami releases an updated Forbidden and Limited card list that works to make sure Yu-Gi-Oh! maintains a balanced competitive meta as more sets are released into the game.

Konami typically spaces out its ban list updates by about three months, giving players time to implement new product releases into their strategies and create new decks, while also allowing the company to gather more data and make informed decisions about which cards to hit next.

Any card that appears under the Forbidden, Limited, or Semi-Limited categories on the list is going to be something that heavily impacts the competitive meta of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, and the July 1 list absolutely shows that.

One of the most prominent decks over the last year and change is the powerful Dragon Link toolbox that can run a variety of styles and swarm the field with powerful boards of Link Monsters or Dragon walls. However, this deck was dealt two massive blows on the new banlist in the form of Guardragon Elpy and Striker Dragon.

Both are powerful Link 1 monsters that can easily be brought out and used to dig deeper into your deck or facilitate bigger plays with their summoning and searching effects.

Elpy has long been a thorn in non-Dragon Link player’s sides and was a card that many expected to be banned on this list. It will severely limit the usual go-to combo of the powerful deck.

Striker Dragon was only Limited, but was a bit of a surprise and will further hinder the ability of one of the most dominant decks in the game. It still gives Dragon Link players access to an early combo, but it will limit plays later in the game when resources become scarce.

Likewise, Zoodiac Drident was banned in both the OCG and TCG this cycle, and will likely signal the end of any pure Zoodiac decks that were on the come-up recently. It will also hurt the Tri-Brigade/Zoodiac builds that have been steadily growing in power, though not by much.

Dinosaur caught a stray bullet on the list too with Miscellaneousaurus being Limited. This will make the deck easier to counter since players will need to expend more resources to access the card. It won’t kill the deck by any means, but new builds are going to pop up with this beast hindered.

Arguably the biggest change on this list outside of Dragon Link getting nerfed twice is Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! coming back to one copy. This is arguably the core of entire Sky Striker builds, with the ability to add a Sky Striker card from deck to hand, and then letting the player draw a card if they have three or more spells in their Graveyard.

This might not break the archetype or bring it back to anywhere near full-power, but it will provide another stabilizing agent to make the strategy more consistent.

Outside of that, most of the key changes only impact fringe decks like Salamangreat or Pendulum that could see some improvement, but likely won’t push them up from rogue unless something new comes out of the list shifting.

VALORANT players discover Jett’s Dash can cause rubberband effect while in Cypher’s Trapwire

Published

on

One of the biggest changes rolled out with VALORANT Episode Three earlier this week was that Jett could no longer dash through Cypher’s Trapwire. According to a few highlights clips, that might not be entirely true.

A Jett player showed off their perspective in a clip as they were forced into a one vs. one situation. Jett then winded up setting off Cypher’s Trapwire when moving in to defuse the spike.

When stuck from the power of the ability, Jett was still able to dash away before being rubber-banded back to her position. In this short time, the player was able to eliminate Cypher and win the round.

Both players involved in the bug posted their own perspectives separately, letting others see just how strange the interaction looked. The Cypher walked up confidently after trapping Jett, but was caught off-guard when Jett managed to dash out and thus paid with his life.

While Jett didn’t destroy the trap as she could prior to the Episode Three patch, having the character thrown around in that is a disadvantage for Cypher players. With audio cues being so important in this game, Cyphers can easily get misled by the sound their triggered traps and be unaware should an opposing Jett pull this trick.

Just two days into the new Episode, it’s likely Riot will roll out a new patch soon to prevent Jett’s wily mobility from becoming even more of an issue.

League player encounters bug when using Warwick ability against respawning Sion

Published

on

Sion has been at fault for some interesting bugs recently, and today he seems to have fallen victim to another during an interaction with Warwick.

A League player on Warwick encountered a bug where after taking out Sion and dealing with his death passive. Warwick was launched into the enemy base to meet the Undead Juggernaut as he respawned.

It seems Warwick used his Q, Jaws of the Beast at the moment where Sion’s body was set to disappear. This caused the Blood Hunter to follow its trail all the way back to the opponent base. Instead of dropping Warwick under the fountain, the game stopped him between the Nexus and inhibitor turrets on the top side.

Despite the player’s surprise, they almost managed to secure themselves a second kill on the Sion from inside the enemy base at level one, something that would have been an impressive feat.

Right now, it seems like this bug’s niche usage means it won’t be a widespread issue. But earlier this month, players began to notice another bug involving Sion when in combat with an enemy Dr. Mundo. When Sion’s death passive is about to expire, if he was hit with Mundo’s Blunt Force Trauma, he would respawn on the spot with full health.

There seem to be a few issues plaguing Sion at the moment, but Riot will likely address these in an upcoming patch so the champion can get back to dominating the top lane as usual.

Vanessa revealed for King of Fighters XV

Published

on

Another week, another King of Fighters XV reveal from SNK after the developers took a week off following Luong’s reveal on June 9.

For the game’s 23rd fighter, Vanessa makes her return to the ring, bringing her boxing-inspired brawler style to the latest installment of the franchise.

As a fighter, Vanessa uses a much more agile variant of traditional boxing that focuses on using powerful punches that are capable of creating air current shots or reflecting projectiles. All of this is done while quickly moving around the stage and ducking in and out of close combat.

Vanessa, who acts as a normal housewife in her off-time, works as a mercenary agent, often teaming up with other fighters such as K’. In KoF XV, she will be partnering with Blue Mary and Luong to create Team Secret Agents.

This team-up is surprising because this means Luong won’t be on a team with Kim Kaphwan and his master Gang-il, her boyfriend, on a potential Team Kim. There are also only a few solid connections between the fighters, including Vanessa being an acquaintance of Blue Mary’s past lover, Butch.

Vanessa was previously a DLC fighter for KoF XIV, but has been a staple character for the series since KoF 99. She wasn’t a playable character in her debut title but became a competitor in the next title, KoF 2000.
