Building capability in online learning and teaching through Networks of Expertise.
A big welcome back to all eteachers in our network to what will be a busy year of professional growth and exploring new opportunities in PLD.
Our Lead Team met this month to reconnect with our strategic goals and plan a PLD programme that is responsive to the needs of our eteachers.
We farewelled Tewaiehu Savage, Kaiarahi Mātauranga Māori Lead. Tewai’s expertise and leadership, and her facilitation of the Te Waharoa, pepeha, and Mātariki PLD sessions broadened and enriched our members’ confidence and knowledge of Te Ao Māori. Tewai has taken up a place as Initial Teacher Education lecturer for ECE at UNITEC, and as Mātauranga Māori Lead. We wish her the very best. Read about her contribution to both Kōtui Ako and NEX Kōtuitui.
We welcomed Madeline Campbell to the Lead Team in February. Madeline is a Teaching and Learning Lead with NetNZ, and brings with her a raft of competencies in the online teaching space. Haere mai, Madeline. We will share details of the 2025 Lead Team in an upcoming article.
Our first PLD session for beginning eteachers had a great turnout – thank you to those who attended. Read about some of the key reflections on eteaching 101. We aim to pick up on some of the korero in this session to take further to Sandpit sessions in term two.
Sign up for our second PLD session – A.I. Tools for eteaching. In last year’s NEX Kōtuitui hui we sampled three free tools that assist both learners and teachers plan and reflect on their mahi. Come along and sample these tools, and share your own practice using A.I in your virtual classrooms.
Did you know that NEX Kōtuitui offers funding for its members? Thanks to our partnership with the Ministry of Education, we can offer funding to support study or research into an area in online teaching. Ursula Thynne, a Lead Teacher at Ko Taku Reo, and member of this network, has completed her Masters of Contemporary Education Research with additional funding from NEX Kōtuitui, and will share her mahi in a March webinar. Be sure to sign up for this and be inspired to engage in research or study in 2025!
We hope your year is off to a great start.
Ngā mihi nui
The NEX Kotuitui Team
