New World’s fishing system is one of the surest signs that it is an MMO crafted for the modern moment. It seems more than ever gamers are more interested in peaceful side tasks such as fishing than they are in the central pitch of a game — questing, monster killing, and so on. Here’s how to get started fishing in New World.
To get your first fishing pole, your best bet is so craft one yourself. Luckily, that’s not too hard to do. You’ll need 1 Green Wood and 1 Fiber, which you can bring to a campfire to get crafting. If you’re lucky enough to spawn near the Watcher’s Campfire at Monarch’s Bluffs Watchtower, you’ll be able to get Hemp in the nearby forest that you can turn into Fiber.
Alternatively, you can get a fishing pole by speaking to Master Fisher Michael Shields in Windsward.
Once you’ve got a fishing pole, you can get straight to fishing, but if you’re looking for maximum yield you may want to invest in some bait. You can buy bait from most of the traders in the game, and you’ll want to match your bait type to the body of water in which you’re fishing. Fresh water bait will work better in fresh water, salt water bait in salt water.
As far as fishing locations, anywhere will do, but generally speaking deeper water will yield better results.
