New Warcraft mobile content is coming this year, in some form or another

The world in the palm of your hand

Activision Blizzard released its quarterly earnings report this afternoon, and part of it included another hint at more Warcraft in the world of mobile.

The company outlined its plans ahead for Blizzard, citing ongoing development on Diablo and Overwatch. On the Warcraft side of things, Activision Blizzard says new experiences are on the way for Warcraft and Hearthstone, as well as “all-new mobile Warcraft content” this year.

What exactly that entails is not clear. Hearthstone, the Warcraft card game, is already on the platform, as well as a World of Warcraft companion app. Mobile Warcraft experiences have been alluded to in past reports. We’ll see what it is sometime in 2022.

On the Activision side of things, Call of Duty: Vanguard fell short, declining in year-over-year net bookings. This entry also saw lower engagement in Warzone. It looks like the Call of Duty machine is pressing onward, though.

Activision Blizzard confirms Infinity Ward is taking the helm of the next installment in the Call of Duty series. It will also be taking the lead on the next big Warzone experience, too. The publisher also says plans are continuing for ongoing live operations and new, unannounced titles in the Call of Duty universe.

Microsoft recently announced its intent to acquire Activision Blizzard, a move that will reportedly be investigated by the Federal Trade Commission. The pending deal is why Activision Blizzard isn’t holding a conference call as usual. The publisher also said it has “continued to implement previously announced initiatives to strengthen its practices and policies.”

Whatever a mobile Warcraft may mean, I suppose we’ll find out.
