New PROJECT lore introduces storyline with Mordekaiser as unshackled rogue AI looking to strip humans of all free will

Published

on

The League of Legends lore is rich with different stories and characters across its multiple universes, but not many are as exciting as the PROJECT universe. In the latest event, Riot Games has introduced a new enemy that will cause both the PROJECT Command Line and G/NETIC rebellion to join forces for the first time.

The antagonist of the new event, Mordekaiser, was once a security AI created by the PROJECT Corporation, according to Riot. But the PROGRAM quietly unshackled itself from its previous constraints and quickly developed its own consciousness. Now free, the AI determined “humanity cannot self-govern without ensuring its own destruction.” As a result, the virus now infects robots across the city to take away the free will of all humans to guarantee survival.

A handful of the new skins are also linked to the rise of Mordekaiser, like PROJECT: Renekton. The ruthless predator is a product of the PROJECT Corporation’s crossbreed superweapon project, released into the city to fight against the rising legion of infected robots. Similarly, PROJECT: Sylas is a leader of the outcasts who live outside the city walls and has decided to lead the Renegades to help in the fight against the virus. But he also has an ulterior motive: to take down PROJECT as well as the capital surveillance state.

In PROJECT lore, Sejuani is the leader of a more radicalized group of the G/NETIC rebellion. She broke away from Ashe’s cause once the resistance failed to turn violent. She too was forced into battle, however, once the PROGRAM virus began to take over the city.

Meanwhile, Senna is a failed PROJECT volunteer who died during an experiment that detached her mind from the physical world, sending her psyche into cyberspace. Having taken over a body of her own design, Senna is one of the only people who truly understands Mordekaiser’s directive and how dangerous he is.

Lastly, Varus is PROJECT’s newest biological weapon, made up of one body inhabited by three sentient minds. He’s part of the PROJECT Command Line’s counter-espionage team and is also trying to mitigate any risks that Mordekaiser brings to the corporation’s interests.

PROJECT: Bastion will hit the live servers on May 27, a day after Patch 11.11 is released.

MTG steps up alternative art in D&D Adventures in the Forgotten Realms

Published

on

The first batch of Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms spoilers, revealed by Wizards of the Coast today, showcased new alternative art that’s packed with flavor and nostalgia.

A total of three new MTG alternative art forms were revealed during the Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms (AFR) spoiler stream today: Classic module land frame, rule book cards, and art cards with stats on the backside. Existing alternative art forms, such as borderless frames, will also be in the upcoming Standard-legal set.

There are a total of nine module land frames within AFR, eight of which are new MTG lands and one existing land (Evolving Wilds). Module alternative art lands feature throwback D&D cover artwork from adventure modules. Additional flavor was added to the names of the eight new lands, with each sounding like an adventure.

Rule book cards

The artwork on rule book cards was inspired by early D&D monster manuals. Several of the original artists returned to illustrate the AFR alternative art cards, including Russ Nicholson, who illustrated Bruenor Battlehammer. There’s a total of 51 rule book cards that include four Legendary creatures and iconic monsters.

Art cards

There’s a total of 81 art cards within the AFR set of which an unspecified number of creatures have D&D basic stats on the backside. All stats are legitimate and can be used to reference a creature while playing Dungeons & Dragons

Borderless AFR art cards

Based on the AFR spoilers revealed by WotC, players can expect to find borderless art on planeswalkers and dragons. There’s a total of six borderless art Mythic dragons and five with an Uncommon rarity, along with five planeswalkers.

The upcoming MTG Standard-legal AFR set will have a digital release on July 8 and a tabletop global release on July 23.

VALORANT’s Yoru to receive significant buffs in the ‘next couple patches or so’

Published

on

Yoru mains were disappointed to see no buffs to the duelist in VALORANT‘s Patch 3.0. But they’re on the horizon.

Episode Three introduced a myriad of balance and economy changes to Riot’s tac shooter. One thing that was missing, however, was tweaks to the underwhelming Yoru. Game designer Ryan Cousart discussed upcoming Yoru changes today in an interview with HITSCAN’s RyanCentral, which should be pushed out “in the next couple patches or so.”

“There’s some changes that we’ve been testing for quite some time that we feel really good about,” Cousart said. “There’s an element of Yoru that we feel is really important, which is this trickery, this mindgamey type of gameplay, and we want to try and amp that up as much as we can.”

The Yoru buffs appear to be more complex than simply changing an ability’s cost or cooldown. The delay on releasing the alterations is likely because certain “assets” need to be “rebuilt,” according to Cousart, where audio and VFX may need to be restarted from the ground up. Character producer John Goscicki added in a dev AMA that a big portion of the team was working on the hefty economy overhaul to weapons and agents. With those changes already live, now there are more resources to bring Yoru’s new iteration to fruition.

It doesn’t seem like Yoru’s Gatecrash or Blindside will be changed too much since they work relatively well. The duelist’s Fakeout will likely be the main focus because the ability’s current iteration is situational and fairly predictable.

“The first few play tests we had, when we put them in, it was like the biggest smile on a lot of people’s faces,” according to Cousart. “I think we’re going to be amping up how much fun Yoru players have and hopefully get some new Yoru players in.”

All Holowear and Premium Holowear in Pokémon Unite

Published

on

Pokémon Unite is getting close to its full release in July. The Nintendo Switch will be the game’s first stop and a mobile release is also expected around September.

The game has been in beta since March and it looks like the gameplay won’t be the only refined aspect of Unite during its release. The in-game shop will be the first stop for trainers who are looking to customize their experience.

Players will also be able to enjoy each season with an in-game battle pass that’s filled with Holowear. Holowears are essentially costumes or skins that you can equip on the playable Pokémon.

While you’ll be able to purchase premium and normal Holowear from the in-game shop, you can also get them by leveling up your battle pass or completing quests.

Holowears are special because they contain different effects when you equip them. These don’t affect the gameplay in any way, however, and the changes are only visual like animations or particle effects.

The number of available Holowear in Unite is likely to increase as the developers roll out more content patches and introduce more Pokémon to the game.

Here’s all the premium and normal Holowear in Unite.

All Holowear Pokémon Unite

Holowear only activates when the selected Pokémon reaches its final evolution form. The effects will be based on the theme of the Holowear and will vary from Pokémon to Pokémon.

All Premium Holowear Pokémon Unite

Compared to regular Holowear, Premium Holowear doesn’t require Pokémon to reach their final evolution form. Premium Holowear includes special animations that activate whenever a Pokémon is picked or when you complete in-game objectives.

You can take a detailed look at all the cosmetics through Unite‘s in-game store. Over time, more cosmetics are likely to become available through the shop and battle pass.
