MSRTC staffers continue strike, despite announcement of pay hike

Date:

Employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) Pune continue to strike and protest even though a pay hike has been announced by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. The protestors, who are not satisfied with just the pay revision, are demanding that MSRTC be merged with the state government.

Senior officials of MSRTC have even threatened the striking employees with legal action if they do not end the strike soon and resume duty.

The striking employees in Pune reiterate that their main demand was not a revision of salary but merger with the state government and treatment as government employees. Till date, about 200 employees of the Pune division of MSRTC have been suspended, and yet, the protests continue undeterred.

The employees have been given a deadline of November 26, to return to duty, failing which stern action will be taken against them.

While the protestors have temporarily withdrawn in Mumbai, the Pune workers are determined to continue.

Meanwhile, in Delhi, many senior doctors of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and other civic facilities are going on an indefinite strike starting November 29 to draw attention to the issue of non-payment of salaries and arrears.

This decision to call a strike was taken by the Municipal Corporation Doctors’ Association (MCDA) in a meeting on November 25. However, in this strike, doctors of the South Delhi and East Delhi Municipal Corporations will not participate.
