Mordekaiser, Blitzcrank among many champions set to be buffed in League Patch 11.15

Published

on

After consecutive patches of the same champions dominating the League of Legends meta, Riot Games is stepping in to give some champs the buffs they need to allow them to reappear healthily on the Rift.

Jeevun “Jag” Sidhu, the current lead game designer on the Summoner’s Rift team for League, revealed Riot’s plans for tentative buffs to champions scheduled for release in Patch 11.15. Many of the champions chosen for buffs this time around haven’t been seen in pro play in quite some time since other options have proven to be much more stable and efficient.

In the top lane, Mordekaiser and Kennen are set to receive buffs, though the specifics are unknown right now. For the last few patches, champions like Gwen, Dr. Mundo, and Nocturne have been some of the most dominant picks in pro play, leaving some old favorites in the shadows.

As for junglers, Nidalee and Shyvana will be receiving buffs of some kind in the next patch. Both champions haven’t been priority picks in solo queue or pro play for some time. Fighters and assassins have made their way to the front of the jungle meta and haven’t shown any signs of slowing down.

Syndra and Casssiopeia are the only mid laners listed as receiving buffs in Patch 11.15, which shows that Riot is acknowledging the prevalence and sheer power that assassins have right now. Mages like these two champions have been commonplace in the mid lane for some time due to their snowball potential and massive damage but suffer from their inability to roam freely due to a lack of mobility skills. While Syndra is a common pick in pro play still, her pick/ban rates haven’t been at the level that they have been for years.

In the bot lane, Caitlyn, Xayah, Blitzcrank, and Rell are stepping into the spotlight. The two ADCs, although powerful in their own rights, have struggled to dominate their lanes due to their builds not adequately benefitting their skills in the same vein as champions like Ezreal and Kai’Sa. Also unlike these champions, Caitlyn and Xayah tend to fall off quickly due to their lack of mobility, which is a vital part of survival in the meta right now. While it’s unlikely that their damage will be boosted too much to the point that they become overly oppressive, they’ll likely receive some buffs that let them live better in the bot lane.

The support meta consists of little more than Nautlius, Thresh, and Leona right now, so buffs to Blitzcrank and Rell, two other engage tank supports that have been overshadowed as of late, might be what the role needs. Both of these champions are powerful already, though other champs do their jobs more efficiently. Therefore, to align them with other engage supports, they’re going to need substantial buffs.

All of these changes are subject to change and may be altered before their release on the live servers in Patch 11.15. These buffs join numerous nerfs also scheduled for this patch, such as long-awaited nerfs to Gwen and Viego. This patch is scheduled to release on July 21.

FPX stomp OMG in Crisp’s return, climb to second place in 2021 LPL Summer Split

Published

on

FunPlus Phoenix picked up a dominant 2-0 series win over Oh My God today in Crisp’s return to the starting roster in the seventh week of the 2021 LPL Summer Split.

The MVP votes for today’s series went to the carries of FPX, Doinb and Lwx. FPX’s mid laner dominated the first match with a ludicrous Sylas performance. Doinb picked up back-to-back triple kills in the mid game and rolled over his opponents, finishing the match deathless with a KDA of 9/0/6. Lwx secured his MVP vote after picking Vayne in the second game, moving swiftly in teamfights and delivering huge amounts of damage before ending with a KDA of 10/0/9.

In both matches of today’s League of Legends series, there was a clear difference between the skill and mechanics of the FPX and OMG players. While OMG played reactively and tried to adapt to the situations in front of them, FPX went for a lot of early-game plays to create a lead and snowball the match. With no room left for errors, FPX picked up two quick 20-minute wins to round out today’s match and move into their next series with a lot of confidence.

FPX (9-3) will be back on the Rift on Friday, July 23 with a match against Suning (7-5) at 6am CT. The 2020 Worlds finalists have been looking strong but they shouldn’t be too difficult of a challenge for the 2019 world champions if FPX continue to play as they have been.

PES has been rebranded to eFootball, will be fully free-to-play

Published

on

Konami has officially renamed its soccer game franchise Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) to eFootball, which will come out this Autumn as an only-digital, free-to-play title for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC, with a mobile version for Android and iOS coming later.

All versions of the game will feature cross-play, but mobile players will need a controller to play against PC and console users.

It’s a huge rebrand for the game that has been called PES in the West and Winning Eleven in Japan for years. EFootball switches from the traditional annual paid releases that it has been using for years alongside its competitor EA Sports’ FIFA and will focus on providing yearly updates for the seasons instead.

The game will launch with friendly matches and apparently, a selection of nine clubs to play with—Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Arsenal, Corinthians, Flamengo, São Paulo, and River Plate—and will subsequently sell the other game modes as optional DLCs.

It’s unclear at the moment how new teams will be added to the game and if Konami will charge players who want to have a broader selection of soccer clubs to play. Konami is yet to reveal its strategy for eFootball My Club, which is the equivalent of FIFA Ultimate Team, and the series’ long-running career mode, Master League, but said that the game is designed to be “fair and balanced” for all players.

IGN has confirmed that eFootball will continue featuring the Option Files, which allows players to customise much of the game, including unlicensed teams, and share those files with friends or the community. The support for Option Files, though, will be added post-launch. The game will no longer run on Konami’s FOX Engine and will use a custom engine based on Unreal 4 instead.

The move to a new engine allowed eFootball to add a new Motion Matching animation system, which Konami says allows for four times as many animations as previous PES games. Motion Matching will be applied to all versions of the game, even on mobile.

It seems that Konami will be a true competitor to EA Sports this year, especially because eFootball will be free-to-play and will allow cross-play between all platforms, a feature that FIFA is yet to implement on any level. These changes have everything to attract the casual player base of FIFA, who is seemingly tired of paying for annual releases and watch EA put most of its effort in the Ultimate Team series, instead of focusing on the career mode, for example.
