Microsoft defends US 2020 elections by disabling Trickbot Malware

Date:

Microsoft has made it official on Monday that it is going to disrupt the entire network that distributes Trickbot malware to save the critical infrastructure of the United States from being invaded by Russian Hackers.

The American tech giant took action after receiving a court order from the Eastern District of Virginia’s federal judge last week. And the order initiated the Redmond giant to take control of the Trickbot networked computers aka botnets, that are suspected to be operating under the orders of Russian intelligence to influence the US 2020 polls scheduled to be held on November 3rd, 2020.

“Trickbot malware spreading gang is known to spread the file-encrypting malware to corporate networks across the world and poses as a severe threat to US 2020 President Elections”, said Tom Burt, the VP of Microsoft’s Customer Security and Trust division.

Mr. Burt added that the concern is not for the elections to get influenced, but losing the trust of the voters who have unanimously decided to participate in the 2020 elections to see one of their favorites- Donald Trump or Joe Bidden; win the presidential chair.

Note 1- Botnets are computing devices secretly controlled by hackers to spread customers’ malware such as ransomware via phishing emails.

Note 2- By the evening of Monday- October 12th,2020, US-based Cyber Threat analyzing firm Intel 471 found that only 19 active Trickbots were active outside the United States and official news is out that those might also be scrapped by the end of this week.
