MicroPort CRM has received approval from Japan’s Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) for its new range of Alizea pacemakers equipped with Bluetooth technology.
The new implantable pacemakers are paired with the company’s SmartView Connect home monitor, which helps to streamline remote monitoring.
The home monitor system provides cardiologists with detailed patient reports and timely alerts, as well as offering advanced remote monitoring and follow-up.
It can be placed at the patient’s bedside for regular transmission of detailed patient reports regarding the functioning of the pacing system.
The device reduces the burden on the healthcare system and eliminates the need for patients to visit the hospital for routine check-ups.
Together, the Alizea pacemakers and the SmartView Connect home monitor provide cardiologists with timely alerts of a patient’s clinical status.

The latest Alizea pacemakers include AutoMRI, which helps to automatically protect patients when they undergo MRI scans.
A Sleep Apnea Monitoring (SAM) feature is also included in the latest generation of pacemakers. This can help to reveal under-diagnosed diseases with significant cardiac comorbidities, such as atrial fibrillation.
The pacemakers also feature SafeR, a pacing mode that is proven to prevent the first onset of atrial fibrillation by minimising unnecessary ventricular pacing.
Last October, German medical device manufacturer Hemovent was acquired by MicroPort Surgical, a critical care subsidiary of MicroPort Scientific.
