Mass Effect: Legendary Edition Patch Features Fixes, Rebalances

Published

on

mass effect legendary edition box image

Mass Effect Legendary Edition got a new patch today that brings a number of bug fixes, balance tweaks, and general improvements. General fixes include fixing errors that resulted in achievements and trophies not popping when they should, turning the lights on in some of the pre-rendered cutscenes (apparently, some of the lights were not on), making spoken English dialogue separate from English subtitles, improving PC performance for various hardware configurations, and several other “calibrations.”

The fixes become a little more complicated when you go on a game by game basis. Mass Effect has seen improved eye animations for some male characters, fixed a bug that prevented characters from reaching the max level, and squashed another one that prevented some people from buying tier VII Spectre gear.

Over in Mass Effect 2, Illium’s fog got toned down a bit and a character who unintentionally had red eyes in the Overlord DLC has had their eyes fixed. Mass Effect 3 had the fewest fixes, though a bug that prevented certain characters from properly appearing during the Citadel DLC has been fixed. This is by no means an exhaustive list. You can read the full patch notes here.

Halo Infinite Will Not Have Loot Boxes

Published

on

When it comes to Microsoft, one of their biggest exclusives that they owned before all the acquisitions they have recently acquired was Halo. This series first got started with Bungie and while the original development studio has gone on to work on their next big IP, Destiny, Halo was given control to 343 Industries. We’re all waiting for Halo Infinite and fortunately, we got some news regarding the game during this year’s E3 2021 streams.

Microsoft had featured Halo Infinite during their media stream conference which highlighted the game and what players can expect. However, one of their biggest reveals was that the multiplayer was set to be free-to-play. This is a big move and one that had fans ecstatic to get the thrill of playing Halo matches online with friends. With that said there might have been some players curious as to what this could mean for in-game purchases.

Loot boxes have been a big problem for plenty of players around the world. It’s a bit of a gamble as you pay a fee to get random items. Although, players continue to pursue these loot boxes to obtain the hardest and more valuable gear. Of course, that won’t be a problem with Halo Infinite’s multiplayer. Recently a video overview was posted which noted that there won’t be any loot boxes and the fact that 343 Industries was going into the game development with players in mind.

This means that there is no pay-to-way aspect. Instead, the game will offer battle passes that will provide cosmetic customization options for the characters. You’ll change colors, armors, and emblems to name just a few. We’re still having to wait for the game to release as it’s not slated to launch until sometime this holiday season. Regardless, there is likely going to be plenty of players logging in at launch.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles Gets Gameplay Demo at E3

Published

on

Capcom’s E3 event was not much to write home about, with no new games revealed and most of the things showcased being games or gameplay we’d already heard about (or, you know, esports). However, a large portion of the show was given over to showing off the recently revealed Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, showing off what the mystery-solving will look like with protagonist Ryunosuke Narahodo and the not-copyrighted character Herlock Sholmes.

In case you don’t already know, Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is a collection of two games originally released in Japan. For years, these were Japan-exclusive titles in the Ace Attorney series, and Capcom only revealed earlier this year that both games were coming to the West, complete with English-language localization. Its star, Ryunosuke, is a Japanese law student and the ancestor of Ace Attorney’s scrappy modern lawyer Phoenix Wright, who somehow finds himself in London.

The E3 trailer dropped a new demonstration of what playing the game looks like. One of the ways Ryunosuke determines what happened at any given crime scene is with the Dance of Deduction, where he responds to the evidence and draws conclusions. Naturally, the highlight of this Dance of Deduction is matching wits with the knock-off of the Great Detective. Sholmes is a bit less sharp than his sort-of namesake, given that he misses information that Ryunosuke picks up on.

The trailer also shows how the court systems work, in which Ryunosuke has to find contradictions in the reasoning of the British jurors. His prosecutor nemesis Barok van Zieks opposes him at every turn, natch. It’s quite a bit different from the previous games in the series, and Ryunosuke appears to lack some of the mystical or technological game mechanics his fellow attorneys in the series have. The Chronicles launch on PS4, Steam, and Switch on July 27.

River City Girls Zero and River City Girls 2 Announced

Published

on

It’s been a good day to be a fan of River City Girls. In addition to the original game getting a PS5 port and a physical release courtesy of Limited Run Games, publisher Arc Systems Works and developer Wayforward also announced River City Girls Zero and River City Girls 2. The former is slated to release later this year, while the latter will drop in 2022.

River City Girls Zero is a localized version of Shin Nekketsu Koha: Kunio-tachi no Banka, which was originally released in 1994. It will launch for Switch in late 2021 and “other platforms” later. Limited Run Games will produce a physical edition. According to the publisher, “River City Girls Zero lets players experience the first time that Misako and Kyoko teamed up with Kunio and Riki to take to the streets in hard-hitting, curb-stomping action. While the graphics, music, and gameplay all remain true to the classic 16-bit Super Famicom release, this version marks the first time the 1994 game will be localized for the West. A new opening cinematic, new manga cutscenes, and new theme song by River City Girls composer Megan McDuffee have been added as well.”

River City Girls 2 will release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam. Limited Run Games will be producing a physical edition for this game as well. According to the publisher, “Picking up shortly after the original, River City Girls 2 once again put players in control of Misako and Kyoko—as well as Kunio, Riki, and other characters—as they set out on an all-new beat-’em-up adventure across the mean streets of River City. New moves, new enemies, new recruits, new environments, and the return of an old foe await, along with the same over-the-top sense of humor and adrenaline-pumping combat of its predecessor. The game will also feature two-player co-op action both locally and online.”

Monster Hunter Stories 2 is Getting Palamutes After Launch

Published

on

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, the latest game in the Monster Hunter series set to launch on July 9, will be getting a content update shortly after launch. This update will add Palamutes from Rise. We also got a new gameplay trailer that also reveals story details about Stories 2. Trailers for both were the highlights of the short and rather disappointing Capcom E3 showcase.

Stories 2 will have turn-based combat, differentiating itself from the mainline entries in the Monster Hunter series. A demo of Stories 2 will be available starting on June 24, and those who play the demo can transfer their saves into the main game. If you have a Rise save file on your Switch, you’ll get special armor in Stories 2, and vice versa. Special Stories 2 amiibo will also unlock other armors.

In addition to the demo, we also learned more about the story and gameplay in a new trailer. The main character, the grandchild of a hero named Red, is tasked with protecting a Rathalos given to a girl named Ena by Red’s Monstie companion, Guardian Ratha. Based on the trailer, it appears the goal of the game is to protect and raise the creature who comes out of the egg, allegedly a villainous creature of prophecy called Razewing Ratha (who bears the titular wings of ruin).

Also, the game will have crossover content with Monster Hunter Rise. Specifically, Rise’s Palamutes will be added to the game in an update on July 15 that adds the dog-equivalents to Stories 2 as a new Monstie. We also got some info on future content updates for Rise. The upcoming version 3.1 will add new quests, new armors, and new rewards. This update rolls out for Rise on June 24. Further content updates will roll out in early and late July and August.
