Marijuana provisioning center approved

Date:

Constantine Village Council voted Monday to allow Fawn River Cultivation Company, pending approval of legality, to add a medical marijuana provisioning center at its site at 621 Industrial Drive.

The company currently has permits for growing and processing.

FRCC president Dominic Iemma said in a letter he sent the council that he was applying for an “abandoned permit” granted to another facility earlier, and not renewed by the owner.

He said a provisioning center at his location would address general complaints brought up at the previous council meeting regarding too many retail marijuana operations in the downtown area.

“This would allow for people who may want to purchase marijuana more discreetly an alternative to being on the main thoroughfare — Washington Street,” he said.

Iemma thanked the council for granting him a provisioning center permit. he said he planned to complete the application form and pay the $5,000 fee on Tuesday.

Other news from the council meeting:

Village Manager Mark Honeysett asked the council to take another look at the at the proposed recreational marijuana ordinance, particularly the number of facilities, and what type would be allowed in the village. He said he “received very little input” from the council on ballot language since the previous meeting. Aug. 18 is the deadline to have language on the ballot for the ordinance.
Honeysett said so far donations for the fireworks fund includes cash donations of $585 and numerous returnable bottles and cans. A fireworks display scheduled for July 4 so far is still on.
Constantine Township Clerk Marti Brown provided Honeysett with petition forms for the council president and trustee seats for the next election. Anyone wishing to run for a seat may contact the village office, (269) 435-2085. Due date to file is July 21.
