Main Beach home smashes the suburb record by $800,000

Date:

3537 Main Beach Pde, Main Beach, has sold for a suburb record.

A four-storey absolute beachfront home has set a new suburb record for Main Beach selling under the hammer for $9.8m.

The $9m opening bid for 3537 Main Beach Pde, one of only eight free-standing homes with direct beach access left along the exclusive strip, was well past the previous record sale price even before a counter-bid was made.

The property has stunning views from every room.

Marketing agent Amir Mian of Amir Prestige Group said there were six registered bidders vying for the property, including four from Melbourne, yet it was a local buyer’s $9.8m bid that brought the hammer down.

The price has outstripped the suburb’s highest sale by $800,000 and it is $2.5m more than the most recent sale on the strip, which took place in January 2021 and was for an original beach shack at No.3517.

The property was purchased by a local buyer.

The beach house is registered to Bolton Family Investments, which last year was behind the $11m purchase of an acreage property in Carrara owned by supercar driver Paul Weel and his wife Emma.

Built more than 30 years ago, the home is a low-maintenance, full-concrete construction that has weathered time and the elements well.

The golden sands of Main Beach are at the doorstep.

There is a laundry, sauna, gym and large study on the ground level, while the living spaces which include a fireplace and large galley-style kitchen are a level above.

The third floor has three bedrooms, all with ensuites, and the upper floor has been reserved for the master suite, which has a balcony and small study nook.

Views of the ocean can be seen from almost every room, or step out onto the back deck to find it nudging the golden sands of Main Beach.

The house is on a 405sq m block in a medium-density zone with unlimited building height, so it does have potential for future development, but Mr Mian said the new owners would be using it as a holiday home.

The galley-style kitchen draws your eye towards the ocean.

They will be in good company, with many high-profile identities owning properties along the parade, including Katie Page, wife of retail magnate Gerry Harvey, who designed and built apartment tower M3565, which has achieved sales of $6.25m, and the penthouse, owned by Ms Page, has been listed at $10m.

No.3573 is owned by Gold Coast automotive industry giants Rebecca and Brett Frizelle, who are planning on building their dream home on the site after they sold their Southport home for $12.25m and purchased the original beach shack on Main Beach Pde for $7.2m in 2020.

The house sold for a record $9.8m at auction.

Billionaire and founder of Australia’s Super A-Mart chain owns the double block at 3551-3553 Main Beach Pde, acquiring it in 2009 for $9.01m.

The Bayden Goddard-designed Sea building is home to miners Ian and Margaret Howard-Smith after recently buying the second-level apartment from Dominos Pizza boss Don Meij.
