MAD Lions Reach the 2021 LEC Spring Split Finals With 3-1 Win Over G2 Esports

MAD Lions have not only secured a spot in the 2021 LEC Spring Split finals, but they’ve done so by outclassing the defending champions G2 Esports in 3-1 fashion. The most impressive thing about their achievement isn’t the mere fact that they’d won but rather the way in which they got their “hands raised.” It was quite a dominant showing, and it seemingly came out of nowhere.

From the very outset, MAD Lions dictated the pace and made the more intelligent moves on the map. Still, we knew what kind of game G2 wanted to play, and we were all eagerly awaiting that mind-blowing moment at which they seize control and turn things around by “bending the rules of the game.” But that moment never came. To their credit, they kept things fairly competitive, but they were always a tad too slow to react; it was as if they had no shotcaller whatsoever. Turns out, that’s exactly what was at play. With Luka “Perkz” Perković packing his bags and moving across the Atlantic to compete for Cloud9, G2 Esports was left without an in-game leader.

And for the first time in a while, they couldn’t win on sheer talent alone. This is a team game after all, and sensational though they are, G2 still needs to execute and deliver as a five-man unit if they intend on beating the very best teams in Europe (let alone the world). Fortunately, they were just given a brash reminder, a decisive beatdown at the hands of a young, confident line-up — one that has yet to taste the true “flavor” of success, the euphoria, and elation that come with hoisting the LEC trophy. They have a big dream, one that G2 had realized and brought into existence years ago. So it is only natural that they’re fighting with a lot more vigor and determination. They want it badly, and they care very little about whom they have to go through to get it.

An Exciting Four-Game Brawl

We saw a fairly competitive G2 in game one, but they always faltered whenever it mattered most. Game two gave us a glimpse at a very passive G2, one that was out of its depth — MAD Lions outclassed them at will, with a ten thousand gold lead at the twenty-minute mark. After two games with Martin “Rekkles” Larsson on Karma, G2 decided to revert back to “normal” and give the most successful and revered marksman in LEC history a pick he could truly work with and excel.

They were a lot more competitive in game three, probably because they had an “easier” team comp to work with — one with multiple avenues for success. They made few mistakes overall and looked a lot more like the G2 we all expected. For the first time in the series, Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski and Rasmus “Caps” Winther delivered, with a 4/0/10 and 4/0/11 KDAs, respectively.

But their dominance didn’t last that long. In fact, it was only contained within that one game. Game four was fairly similar to the first two; it took MAD Lions only 33 minutes to close things out — with four Dragons to their name along with ten turrets and a whopping 13k gold lead.

Each and every single player delivered, and watching them traverse the Summoner’s Rift and execute to a tee was nothing short of mesmerizing. At the very least, they gave us a glimpse at their potential which left no one indifferent. MAD Lions, at their best, are more than capable of trading blows with the who’s who of the LEC, and they’ve proved it yet again — this time on an actual stage, showing everyone that they’re not just a “one-hit-wonder.”

Can they do it again, though? All they need to become the LEC champions are three more wins — no more, no less. A meagre amount, you’ll probably agree. If G2 Esports take down Rogue and shore up their weaknesses in the process, MAD will face a much stiffer test than they did the first time around.

Still, they’re surely gleaming with confidence. They already took down G2 once and it stands to reason that they could do it again, no matter the context. The outcome is far from guaranteed, which makes their (seemingly inevitable) rematch all the more enticing! Still, this isn’t the first time MAD took down G2 in a Best of 5 — the exact same thing happened last year as well, and it didn’t matter whatsoever in the grand scheme of things as G2 Esports came back with a vengeance.

Will history repeat itself?

The Reality of the G2 Dynasty

Boxing legend Marvin Hagler once said it best: “it’s hard to get out of bed in the morning to go for a run when you’re sleeping in silk sheets.” This sort of reality applies to G2 Esports as well. They’ve been so darn dominant for such a long period of time. They’re the best and most accomplished team in LEC history. They’ve earned their spot in the competitive League pantheon and, other than winning Worlds, there’s nothing left for them to accomplish.

So it’s easy to understand if they haven’t been trying all that much lately. It’s hard to go back to the drawing board and work on your flaws — no matter how minute in size — when you can still run circles around the vast majority of your peers. As they say, “reaching the top is easy, staying there is what’s hard.”

Fortunately, it seems like they’ve decided to put in the work. A fairly one-sided loss would motivate anyone, let alone the most accomplished European team in history. They’re bound to enter the upcoming weekend with a chip on their shoulder. The LEC throne is “rightfully theirs,” and now they’re on the brink of losing it for the first time in a long while. If that doesn’t light up a fire underneath them, nothing else will.

Mark your calendars, folks, as the last two Best of 5s of the 2021 LEC Spring Split playoffs are bound to entertain in all the right ways! A historic weekend might be in the cards!

Fortnite: DreamHack Cash Cup Extra Europe & NA East Results

We take a look at the EU and NA results from DreamHack’s Cash Cup Extra

DreamHack is back after a brief hiatus as the organization took a step back to formulate a new plan of attack in competitive Fortnite. Last year’s DreamHack Open series produced some of the game’s most exciting moments, like Polish player teeq winning three competitions and Slovenian competitor k1nzell winning two solo tournaments. The absence of DreamHack created a void in the community. Thankfully, the Swedish production company made its triumphant return.

That came in the form of Fortnite’s first-ever Cash Cup Extra, a tournament based on the game’s weekly Trio Cash Cup results. The top 132 teams from the European and NA East regions secured themselves a spot in DreamHack’s inaugural Cash Cup Extra, where they went to war for a share of over $17K USD. Some of the world’s best trios, including two reigning FNCS Champions, did their best to elevate above the rest. Let’s see who came out on top in each region.

TaySon, 4zr and Nayte Seem Unstoppable

The European scene outside of this week’s Cash Cup winners — TaySon, 4zr and Nayte — played for second. This newly formed and already dominant trio flexed their abilities with 79 eliminations and two Victory Royales across nine matches. Chemistry and teamwork are no concern for this trifecta of talent. This week included a regular Cash Cup tournament win followed by a win in the first-ever DreamHack Cash Cup Extra, showing that TaySon, 4zr and Nayte are looking to dominate Season 6.

Vadeal, Noahreyli and Rezon ay, who finished third in FNCS Chapter 2 – Season 5, grabbed a second-place finish in the Cash Cup Extra. Their eight-match effort included 71 eliminations and two Victory Royales. Nebmaster, bubakmaster and Devour WaiZ were the only other team to break 600 points and claimed third place for their efforts. FNCS Chapter 2 – Season 5 Champions — JannisZ, Chapix and Hen — took tenth place with 539 points. The EU leaderboard featured a who’s who of elite players, which you can see below:

  • 1st: Grizi 4zr, GUILD TаySon, grizi nayte – $2,100
  • 2nd: Wave Vadeal, BL Noahreyli, rezon ay лол – $1,800
  • 3rd: AOS nebsмasteя, bubakмаsteя, Devour WaiZ – $1,500
  • 4th: Solarу BlastR, Vitаlity Nikof, TrainH Alphaa – $1,200

Acorn, Jahq and Slackes Continue to Demolish NA East

There might not be a better trio in the world right now than Acorn, Jahq and Slackes. These three North American players joined forces in Chapter 2 – Season 4 and have improved immensely with each passing week. Fresh off of winning last season’s Fortnite Champion Series, Acorn, Jahq and Slackes won the FaZe Clan Elite Cup, the first Season 6 Cash Cup, and can now call themselves DreamHack Cash Cup Extra Champions.

Their Cash Cup Extra performance saw the reigning FNCS winners win three of nine matches and accumulate 652 points overall. A combined 63 eliminations out of this trio was the second-most in the competition. The era of Acorn, Jahq and Slackes continues emphatically.

Emerging NA East players Plege, Pandushh and Ganzo finished in second with three Victory Royales and 609 points. These three won back-to-back games out of the gate with 12 eliminations in each. FNCS Chapter 2 – Season 4 winners — Reverse2k, Deyy and Mero — rallied back after four shaky games to start the Cash Cup Extra festivities. They rifled off four top-ten finishes and 59 eliminations to close out the competition, landing them in third place. Some other recognizable NA East trios also topped the leaderboard.

  • 1st: LG Slackes, 1P Acornski, G2 Jаhq – $2,100
  • 2nd: Plege, Pandushh, Pure Ganzo – $1,800
  • 3rd: ENDL8SS DEYYRITO, mero2k, ENDLESS Reverse – $1,500
  • 4th: Cоmmandment, FaZe Cented, NRG Edgey – $1,200
  • 5th: elite gabe89, 9LIVES Tahi, sprite dabdabdab – $900
  • 6th: noob teyo, Сhimp, Tabnae – $750
  • 7th: Speguu, OUTCAST GOKU YT, strawhat charlie – $750
  • 8th: 9LIVES VOIL, XPRT Xccept, Snakeccept – $750
  • 9th: FS SHERIFF DEG, skqughaski2k, BBG PIECE

The next Cash Cup Extra tournament will occur on April 21, barring any setbacks. Remember that your trio must place top-132 in that week’s Trio Cash Cup to be eligible. DreamHack also resurrected the Online Open tournament, which is on the schedule for this weekend!

MSI 2021 To Be Played On Patch 11.9

Avatar

in League of Legends | Apr, 15th 2021

It’s official: MSI 2021 will be played on patch 11.9. This, in short, is quite exciting news as it means all twelve teams will get to prepare and eventually compete on even footing. Moreover, patch 11.9 is bound to bring a slew of exciting changes (Hecarim and Udyr nerfs are basically a given), some of which will build upon the “foundation” Riot has established with 11.8

MSI 2021 Groups

Speaking of which, do not underestimate the potential said patch carries and how big of an impact it could possibly have on pro play. For instance, champions like Cassiopeia, Darius, and Zed will all become somewhat viable junglers which may or may not affect competitive play as well. Pro players are always looking for that extra bit of something to gain an edge over their opponents, and these new changes and champion updates definitely fit the bill.

Furthermore, Gnar and Orianna have both received nerfs with Aphelios, LeBlanc, Lee Sin, Vladimir, and Zac getting nuanced (but important) buffs. These changes alone will surely affect pick and ban priority, so at least we won’t be seeing the exact same picks over and over again. Furthermore, changes to Moonstone (and other support Mythics) might usher in the enchanter support meta, although it’s still too early to predict anything with confidence.

No one can be too sure of the direction the meta will evolve in, but at least there’s ample potential. Either way, we’re bound to see a lot of experimentation!

Unfortunately, it’s not all good news.

No New Champions

As previously reported, Viego will remain unplayable, and the same goes for LoL’s latest champion — Gwen, the Hallowed Seamstress — as well. This, in short, is quite depressing as we were all hyped to see the absolute best players in the world try their hand at these hugely powerful champions, both of which have the potential to be meta-defining.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a bit longer for that to happen. Either way, there’s definitely a reason to tune in to the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational, regardless of these relatively minor hindrances!

Call of Duty Mobile Season 3 Tokyo Escape: Oasis, Coastal

Cody Perez
in Call of Duty Mobile | Apr, 15th 2021

The new season of Call of Duty Mobile is almost here and may already be here by the time you read this, so it is time to go over everything in this new batch of content. Call of Duty Mobile Season 3 is the third one this year and in this line of rebooted seasons for the mobile game.

Call of Duty Mobile Season 3 Tokyo Escape Release Timing

Call of Duty Mobile Season 3 is officially known as Tokyo Escape. It has a beautiful sakura (cherry blossom) pink-inspired color scheme to it throughout the marketing materials and the battle pass that players are going to be pursuing during this season.

The spring season is here, and it seems that Tencent and Activision are in the spring mood as this Tokyo Escape Season has a much more light and colorful feel that we haven’t seen in the past from all of the dark and grim military and sci-fi themed seasons.

At the time of writing this, Call of Duty Mobile Season 3 is not available just yet for players to check out, but it will soon be. The patch notes have revealed that the new season’s timing will be on April 16 (today) at around 5 p.m. PT (8 p.m. ET).

For some players worldwide, that means it will not be released until Friday, April 17 for you. Though Activision has not released the official patch notes for the new season of content, the Garena version of the game that is, for all intents and purposes, mostly the same game, has.

Using those patch notes, we can figure out most everything in the official Call of Duty Mobile Season 3 Tokyo Escape patch notes. This includes the new abilities, battle pass, gun, multiplayer maps, game mode, and so much more. Let’s get started.

Season 3 Battle Pass Revealed

As mentioned already, the Season 3 battle pass will be much more colorful all around when compared to nearly every other season that we have had in Call of Duty Mobile, like the currently ending second one. While some players might not be a fan of that, it is a nice and very much needed breath of fresh air from the usual dark color scheme of the game.

There will always be around 50 tiers of battle pass levels for players to go through with a variety of items across each of the levels. Some of them will be free to everyone in the game, while others will require you to purchase the paid battle pass to unlock them.

When it comes to the free items that are going to be available to everyone through the battle pass, a couple of them are noteworthy. The first is the new PP19 Bizon weapon. The other is the Bull Charge operator skill that you can use in multiplayer matches.

Some other free items you will be able to get in the Tokyo Escape battle pass, but they are the usual items; those are the unique ones for this season. On the other hand, if you want to enjoy all of the various rewards this season, you will need the premium battle pass.

The paid battle pass comes with all of the items available to you across the 50 tiers so long as you can unlock them by the end of the season. Some of the most notable items that you can get include the new weapon blueprints that have arrived this season.

One of them is the Yokai PP19 Bizon weapon blueprint, a great version of the brand new weapon releasing this season. For the QXR, the Scorching Sun weapon blueprint, the Oni one for the Type 25 rifle, the Scabbard for the ASM10, and the Karuta for the RUS-79U.

These weapon blueprints are epic rarity ones and can be unlocked through the paid battle pass this season. Some epic soldier skins this season like The Boss Hidora Kai skin, Escape Zero skin, Ninja Spectre one, and the Sensei Takeo one.

And last but not least, there is yet another legendary calling card that players will be able to unlock, likely at the final tier or so for the battle pass. This season’s Showdown calling card that you can use in matches to show off to your teammates and enemies alike.

New Abilities, Weapon, and Perks

As mentioned already, there will be new abilities, weapons, perks, and more that are releasing this season. Let’s start with the new weapons as these are what many players are going to be excited for. There are two weapons this season. The first is the aforementioned PP19 Bizon.

The Bizon is a brand new SMG weapon unique in the weapon class for having a high rate of fire and reduced recoil compared to most of the other weapons. But it works best in close combat as that is when it truly shines.

Players will be able to destroy enemies in close range with only three shots necessary to kill, which is impressive given how fast the gun fires each shot. But this does come at the cost of range as it will not be super useful when it comes to longer ranges of fighting. You can unlock this in the battle pass.

The other new base weapon is the Renetti. This unique weapon is built from the ground up for three-round bursts of fire. It has suppressed recoil control so that you will be able to accomplish these bursts more easily. Players who like the burst fire in games might enjoy this recoil-friendly new weapon.

However, you will not get the Renetti through the battle pass like the other new weapon. Instead, it will be released later this season in one of the special events. In that event, players will need to complete various challenges to unlock it. Alternatively, there will likely be a store bundle you can purchase to unlock its greatness instantly.

For the new operator skill that is here this season, we have the Bull Charge. This one is pretty simple: what it does is allow the operator to charge forward and destroy the enemies in your path. It is a quick and powerful ability but one that will leave you vulnerable to those not in your direct path. It is unlocked through the battle pass.

There is a new perk as well this season that is known as Overclock. This one is simple, too, increasing the charging speed of the operator skill that you have. For those of you who love to use your favorite skill all the time, this perk will be a must-have in multiplayer loadouts.

And for those of you who are battle royale fans, there is a new class this time around with the Spotter class. The passive is known as the Fly Swatter ability. It shows nearby winged enemies who are gliding and increases the reload speed of rocket launcher weapons.

The active ability is Cluster Strike. This useful ability lets you launch an air strike to a designated area. The Spotter ability can be a great class for battle royale when used right, especially in the respawn-centric game modes.

Oasis and Coastal Multiplayer Maps Arrive

Call of Duty Mobile Season 3 wouldn’t be complete without some new multiplayer maps for players to check out. Fortunately, there are plenty of those this season. The first of these is Oasis, a named map at an oasis in the middle of a Middle Eastern desert.

This oasis town is the setting for the map location. Players will have fierce combat scenarios throughout the town. It looks to be a pretty and varied map with different playstyles catered to here. The Oasis multiplayer map will be available for the Frontline mode in Call of Duty Mobile.

Coastal’s next one is another map that is fairly simply named but explains what it is well. Here, you will find a scenic coastal town where players will compete across the various shops, squares, fountains, and wine cellars throughout the picturesque area.

Interestingly, the Coastal map is exclusive to a game mode for now, too, but not one that we expected. The official patch notes note that it is only for the Search & Destroy mode for this time. Oddly, it is only there and not in other game modes like Team Deathmatch, Domination, and the like, so we will have to wait and see what happens with this one.

New Game Mode Explained

As always, a new season of content wouldn’t be complete without at least one new game mode. There is, thankfully, one this season. It is a classic from the Call of Duty series past and one that we are sure fans of it will be glad to know is finally back once more.

We are talking about the classic Swords & Stones. You might know it from its former name of Sticks & Stones in other titles in the series, and it has to do with a very different type of gameplay. It will not be for everyone, but it is something unique nonetheless.

In Swords & Stones, this is a melee-only game mode where players will have to use a wide range of melee weapons to take out other players. Simultaneously, there is a rage buff that will be given to players while they are in the match to encourage more crazy close combat fighting.

So, whatever melee weapon you like in the game, equip it and head into this mode. The game mode will give you a Hachi to use in battle. This new Swords & Stones game mode will be available on the Crash, Standoff, Killhouse, and other multiplayer maps.

Various Improvements and Optimizations

This update is full of various improvements, optimizations, and the like as well. The Napalm Strike now has slightly more increased burning range after its explosion to catch more players in the fire to kick it off. Also, the Napalm plane will speed up, and the missile’s falling speed is faster now, too.

There are improvements and optimizations for Gunsmith attachments for various weapons, ranging from Type 25 to Chicom to the NA-45. It even includes various attachments from fore grips to barrels to mags and more.

There are just so many different attachments and weapons that have been improved and optimized. Be sure to check out the most relevant ones and your loadout in the game. Here is the full list of changed attachments at this time:
