Lululemon Athleticato hire 250 techies for Bengaluru tech hub

Lululemon Athletica has announced the launch of its technology base at Bengaluru, in India. This is the first such initiative of this international apparel brand outside of North America.

The new tech hub is reportedly going to operate July 2021 onwards. For this, the Company plans to hire around 250 technologists by 2022.

The Canadian athletic apparel brand is the second of its kind to have opened up its technology base in India, the first one being Sak’s Fifth Avenue. Julie Avrill, chief talent officer, expressed her confidence in India’s strategic location, which makes it an ideal investment for a technology hub. With the promising growth of the IT industry in the country and so many youngsters getting into the technology domain, the Company believes that India is the perfect place for long-term investment.

Recently, several global companies such as Walmart, Target, Tesco and Lowe’s have opened their technology hubs in India. Amazon has the largest corporate and technological base in the country. The tech base of Lululemon will be operational for technology stack, data science, machine learning and cloud engineering, to support the planning, product design, network planning functions and so on.

Lululemon is an athletic apparel brand inspired by yoga. It was founded in 1998 by by Chip Wilson in Canada. The Company started as a design studio byday and a yoga studio by night. However, by 2000, it became a standalone store for apparel. Today, its annual turnover stands at about US$3.98 billion.
