Louis Vuitton is making a mobile game with embedded NFTs

Published

on

The worlds of fashion and gaming are cozying up to one another. From Gucci selling digital items in Roblox to Vogue‘s virtual fashion spread starring Gigi Hadid, the two industries are increasingly overlapping to capture a young, tech-savvy audience. Now, Louis Vuitton is jumping on the bandwagon by releasing a mobile video game to celebrate its founder’s 200th birthday. Louis: The Game stars the fashion house’s mascot Vivienne, a wooden doll embellished with the company’s flower insignia, on a journey through the brand’s history, reports Austrian newspaper Kurier.

The iOS and Android game reportedly tasks players with exploring a colorful world by completing various quests — all pretty generic so far. Whether it turns out to be more than just an unashamed bit of promotional fluff remains to be seen. The game drops on August 4th. If LV goes all-out psychedelic like it did with its recent UFO-style speaker, then it could be worth a look.

According to WWD, the game will also feature “embedded NFTs.” Though, that hardly sounds promising. The one-of-a-kind digital collectibles have gone from multi-million dollar auctions to freebies designed to promote throwaway pop culture, like Warner Bros. recent Space Jam reboot.

Cathie Wood’s Ark Invest Buys $89M Worth of TWTR After the Bitcoin Tips Integration

According to a survey, approximately every third swing state resident would like to see local authorities legalizing cryptocurrencies as a payment option. While general support towards private digital currencies is on a high level, the locals still need to learn more, the research revealed.

Texas and Wisconsin Rank First

The London-based polling firm Redfield & Wilton Strategies conducted a survey among over 9,700 eligible voters in 10 swing US states to determine their opinion on some of the latest cryptocurrency developments. Namely, those were California, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Asked whether they want their local authorities to legalize digital assets for payments, nearly one-third answered “yes.” Taking a closer look at the different states, Arizona residents seem the most skeptical, with 28% supporting the idea. On the other hand, Texas and Wisconsin head the statistics registering 37% in favor of the initiative.

The “Lone Star State” citizens topped another ranking as 42% would like to follow Wyoming’s crypto-friendly legislation where cryptocurrency transactions are free of taxes. Arizona (25%) bottomed that statistic as well.

Most of the states in the USA have been historically consistent in their votes and have never changed their either democratic or republican stance in the period between 2000 and 2016. However, there are 13 of them, known as swing or battleground states, that usually decide the results of each political campaign.

The cryptocurrency development in recent years could be another factor that politicians should keep in mind, as Louisa Idel, head of insights at Redfield & Wilton, pointed out:

“If a party wants to catch these receptive voters, it should act swiftly – not only to beat the other party to the punch but also to preempt legislation that would prove difficult to reverse if enacted.”

Most Americans Have Heard only about BTC

While a significant chunk of the US society would like to see cryptocurrencies as a legal means of payment, it also needs to improve its knowledge on the matter.

According to the results, the majority of the voters have only heard or read about bitcoin. Over 60% of them have no knowledge about any other altcoins such as Ethereum (ETH). Even among those familiar with the primary digital asset, nearly 50% said they only knew “a little bit,” while less than 25% consider themselves knowledgeable on the topic.

On the question “Have you heard of cryptocurrencies before the poll?” 14% of Georgia’s residents answered with “no.” Awareness was the highest in Florida, where only 8% of the locals got familiar with digital assets after the survey.

Nintendo is releasing a six-button Genesis controller for Switch, but only in Japan

Published

on

Next month, Nintendo will give Switch Online subscribers the chance to purchase Sega Genesis games as part of a DLC pack with N64 titles. And to make the experience as authentic as possible while playing them, the gaming giant is also selling wireless N64 and Genesis controllers exclusively to Switch Online subscribers. The gaming giant showed off a three-button Genesis controller at its most recent Direct stream in the west. Based on a tweet by Nintendo Japan, though, it will release a six-button version in its home country instead.

Nintendo has confirmed to Polygon that the six-button Genesis controller will be exclusively available in Japan. A Nintendo of America rep told the publication that “different regions make different decisions based on a variety of factors” and that the three-button model was the more widely used and more well-known version in the US and Canada. As the publication notes, the three-button model came first, and the one with six buttons was only released when fighting games boomed in popularity. Playing titles like Street Fighter was easier with more buttons to mash. Take note that the Sega Genesis Mini also launched with a three-button controller outside Japan in 2019, whereas the Japanese version came with a six-button model.

Even if you find a way to import the Japan-only controller, it may be better to wait until other gamers have confirmed that it works with consoles in your region. Nintendo doesn’t have a release date for the three-button model yet, but it will set you back $50 when it becomes available.
