Lookers has revealed a £4.5 million plan to transform its BMW car dealership in Crewe into a regional retail hub for the German premium car brand.

A statement issued by the AM100 PLC today (September 26) said that the “major redesign and refurbishment” of the site off Weston Road would see the long-established dealership transformed into “a major regional retail hub” for the brand in the North West.

Work is due to start later this month and should be completed in time for an official opening in March next year, it added.

Commenting on the start of works at BMW Crewe, the dealership’s head of business Rob Gower said: “This significant investment reflects our commitment to the community in Crewe the local economy and BMW Mini as our brand partner which will offer an exceptional experience for everyone.

“Our customers remain at the heart of all we do which is why we are excited to share this fantastic news.”

News of Lookers’ investement in its BMW Crewe dealership comes as Dick Lovett prepares to move its Bath BMW and Mini franchise into a new development in Melksham.

Lookers’ BMW Crewe redevelopment will round off an investment approaching £15m on upgrades to its dealership facilities across the UK since the start of 2021.

Its projects over that period include a £4.6m investment at its Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) dealership in Bishop’s Stortford, £3m in its Volkswagen Teesside site and £2.1m at Volkswagen Preston.

Lookers has also invested £750,000 in its Nissan Carlisle site and £500,000 opening a new multi-brand Lookers Prestige showroom for premium used cars in Newcastle.

Lookers’ chief operating officer Duncan McPhee said: “I’m pleased to confirm a further investment in our dealership network which is great news for our customers and colleagues and signals our commitment to the BMW brand moving forward.

“It also reflects our commitment to continued growth and to strengthening our position as one of the UK’s leading automotive retailers.”

From today, Lookers will relocate its BMW Crewe operation to its nearby Lookers Mini Crewe dealership.
