From 15-11 down on the second map, lol123 fought back and took Mirage after three sets of overtime before stealing away the final series of the IEM Fall 2021 Oceania Open Qualifier 2 from Rooster, 2-1.
The win is crucial for lol123, who have been left without organizational backing since Chiefs‘ decision to pull out of Counter-Strike at the start of September. The team joins VERTEX, LookingForOrg (ex-Dire Wolves), and 8Ballers in the Closed Qualifier, which takes place on September 17-19.
Rooster are left regretting a missed opportunity, with an in-form Michael “chelleos” Hawkins (1.44 rating in grand final) not being enough for the squad to advance to the next stage. Similarly, Ground Zero are left without a closed qualifier spot, having finished 3rd-4th in both open qualifiers.
