After a hectic week one, we head back into the standard two-game weekend format with week two of the LEC Spring Split.

The Super Week was full of ups and downs. Now, we head into a standard weekend of matches as the LEC table begins to take shape. With 2 sides on 3-0, and 2 sides on 0-3, the battle for the top is already hotting up. It’s too early to start proclaiming that the “Super Team” (Vitality) has failed, or that Fnatic (3-0) is winning the title. However, we learned a lot in week one, and week two should give us a much clearer picture of what the Spring Split has in store.

Week one recaps – Day One, Two, Three

Misfits v Excel

Excel pulled off a shock first blood into an early lead, as they looked to start the weekend with an upset. That early success for Excel did not last, however. Despite picking up three Drakes early, Misfits had knocked down six Excel towers and moved to 5k ahead. Misfits seemed to be unstoppable as they increased their lead to 8k as they knocked on the Excel base. Excel made one last attempt to stay in the game, and while they picked up a kill, the gold lead was plain to see. Misfits swept through the base and moved onto 3-1 in the standings as their impressive start continues. As for Excel, it was never going to be an easy game but they need to build on their early lead going forward and close out matches.

Astralis v Fnatic

Astralis picked up a late first blood before Fnatic turned it into two kills. Fnatic was then able to turn that into a Rift Herald and another kill as they gained a 1.5k lead by 11-minutes. Things went from bad to worse for Astralis, as Fnatic continued to increase their lead into the mid-game. With bounties on the Rift, Astralis managed to pick up two, but Fnatic knocked down two members of Astralis as Fnatic moved further ahead. Astralis had a chance to steal the Baron, but a misplaced Pink Ward meant Fnatic was able to secure it. They almost managed to get away, but Upset cleaned up as Fnatic looked in control. Astralis were doing a good job of delaying the game, but it looked like delaying the inevitable with Fnatic 6k ahead at the 37-minute mark. Astralis tried their best, but it wasn’t good enough. Fnatic moved to 4-0 and they stay top of the LEC.

G2 Esports v SK Gaming

It’s a cagey start, with the first 15-minutes only seeing G2 carve out a 1k lead. G2 cannot find a play to increase their lead as SK always managed to match their plays. They maintained their 1k lead, and moved onto Soul Drake by the 26-minute mark, as Baron looked to be the game-changing moment. G2 was able to secure the crucial Baron, though they left it up to a 62HP smite to decide it. The subsequent play saw them gain a 6k lead, as G2 finally found the momentum they needed. G2 picked up an ace off the back of the Baron and walked down the SK base. The victory keeps G2 in the mix at the top of the LEC.

Team BDS v Vitality

After their 0-3 showing in week one, Vitality looked keen to get off to a winning start in week two. It certainly started well, as they secured a 1k lead by 11-minutes. Vitality continued to dominate, just 10-minutes later they’d secured an 8k lead as BDS looked completely lost. After spending the last week being criticized for their performance in week one, Vitality was not messing around in week two. Securing an easy 27-minute victory against BDS as they get themselves back on the board.

MAD Lions v Rogue

The game of the week got off to an expertly weary start. Things settled down as we moved into the 10+ minute mark with the gold even. The gold started to move over to MAD, before Rogue managed to swing it back as the game neared the 20-minute mark. Rogue continued to keep up the pressure onto MAD, though the lead remained the same with Baron on the Rift. MAD tried to force a Baron but it’s handed straight over to Rogue alongside four kills and a Drake. Once again they tried to force a play, but walk right into the Rogue trap as they hand over yet more gold to Rogue as they forced their way into the base. MAD desperately defend their base, but Rogue claims victory as they join Fnatic at 4-0 at the top of the LEC.
