A full set of details for PUBG Continental Series Four was released today, beginning with regional qualifiers on May 5 and hosting 16 teams in the grand finals of each region in June.
During the PUBG Global Invitational.S last month, Krafton and the PUBG Esports team announced their outline for the 2021 competitive season—including a continuation of the PUBG Continental Series (PCS).
In total, PCS4 will consist of four regional tournaments played out across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Asia-Pacific. Each region will run its qualifier tournaments throughout May, starting with open qualifiers and ending with a Last Chance Qualifier.
Between those events, each sub-region will host its own group stage event. For the Americas, it’ll be the ESL PUBG Masters: Phase one group stage, with $25,000 up for grabs and the top six teams advancing to the playoffs.
The LCQ will feature the seventh through 14th placing teams from each sub-regional group stage, fighting for their share of $20,000 and to decide the final four teams that will advance to the playoffs.
PCS4 will once again run its grand finals schedule on a rotating calendar, meaning the Americas and Asia-Pacific matches will run on June 10 and 11, 17 and 18, and 24 and 25. Meanwhile, Europe and Asia will share a broadcast on June 12 and 13, 19 and 20, and 26 and 27.
The Pick’ Em Challenge is also making a return for the event, letting fans earn in-game rewards by correctly predicting the outcomes of each regional tournament. Fans can vote by using voting coupons they earn by purchasing thematic PCS4 items or by watching the tournaments.
Thirty percent of the revenue generated through the sale of PCS4 items will be added to the overall prize pool of the event, with more details to be shared in the future.
Respawn disables Valkyrie in Firing Range after kill farming exploit
Respawn disabled Valkyrie in the Firing Range after an exploit made statistics in the training grounds count as if they were in normal matches. The legend is available to play in both Battle Royale and Arenas, however.
The stats-related exploit allowed squads to enter the Firing Range, turn on friendly fire, and farm kills or damage with the new legend. Players could also reportedly abuse it to achieve hits with her Missile Swarm.
The glitch threw a spanner in the plans of players who were grinding kills legitimately in Battle Royale and Arenas, since the exploit gives unlimited progress and at a much faster rate with enemies that offer no resistance.
The issue was reportedly tied to using her ultimate in the training grounds, then switching to a different legend. It would continue to track different stats, such as damage caused, kills, and revives. Additionally, the glitch could activate on accident and taint the legitimate stats of players by dropping their KDR, for instance.
Players first reported the glitch early into the new season, but it remained in relative obscurity during the first week after the Legacy update launched. Respawn’s solution shouldn’t cause major disruptions in the game, since Valkyrie is still available to play across both regular modes. It will, however, stop players from abusing her to artificially farm stats.
Respawn hasn’t specified the timeframe for Valkyrie’s suspension, saying only that she will be “temporarily disabled.”

G2 edge out FaZe to set up Heroic matchup at Flashpoint
G2 have come out on top of a back-and-forth series against FaZe 2-1 (Train 16-14, Mirage 22-25, Inferno 16-8) to secure advancement in the upper bracket of Flashpoint 3 and set up their first clash against the new Heroic lineup in the next round.
It was a promising showing from FaZe, but not quite the recovery they were hoping for following a tough run in the past few months, which has seen them miss out on playoffs at three consecutive tournaments so far. They will have a chance to redeem themselves after falling to the lower bracket in Flashpoint 3, where they will first lock horns with one of the biggest underdogs of the event, Sprout.
G2 opted for Train in their opening match against FaZe in an attempt to punish the karrigan-led side, who had lost the map in four out of five instances since adding the Danish in-game leader, once to the Nemanja “nexa” Isaković-led side in the IEM Summer closed qualifier.
FaZe turned out a tough nut to crack on the opener, but G2 were able to withstand the pressure following their opponents’ big run on the CT side spearheaded by Marcelo “coldzera” David and Håvard “rain” Nygaard. After scraping through six rounds on the offense, G2 went on a streak of their own as CTs, and when FaZe made a last-stand effort to climb back from a 10-14 deficit François “AmaNEk” Delaunay stepped up with a game-changing 1v2 clutch to help the French-Balkan side secure a narrow victory.
FaZe picked Mirage, the same map on which they had previously beaten G2 16-5, but this time they had a much taller order ahead of them despite getting off to strong starts on both halves. They couldn’t capitalize on a 12-6 lead, with nexa‘s side finding edges in close situations time and time again to break their opponents’ economy twice, and FaZe had to salvage the situation in the last round of regulation to force overtime.
A couple of nail-biting rounds of overtime followed with FaZe being able to resist up against two more match points from G2, and in the third karrigan‘s side finally prevailed with coldzera spearheading the victory with some late-round heroics, including a defuse in a 1v2 situation.
G2 didn’t seem to have trouble shaking off the tough loss, as they had Inferno under control outside of a couple of blunders at the end of the opening half despite losing both pistol rounds. The cousins worked well in tandem as they led their team to a convincing 16-8 victory.
ESL to insert Ancient into map pool for IEM Summer
ESL will introduce Ancient into the map pool for all of its ESL Pro Tour circuit, starting with IEM Summer, the tournament organizer announced today.
ESL took this decision following discussions with the ESL Pro League player council and the Counter-Strike Professional Players’ Association (CSPPA). Valve has added Ancient to the Active Duty map pool on May 3, replacing Train in the rotation, in what was the first map pool change since Vertigo replaced Cache in March 2019.
So far, there hasn’t been any relevant competitive matches on Ancient as the map isn’t being featured in the current round of Regional Major Ranking (RMR) events, the qualifier circuit for the PGL Stockholm Major, which will take place between Oct. 23 and Nov. 7.
IEM Summer is the next premier event of the ESL Pro Tour and the action is slated to begin on June 3, with $250,000 on the line. The competition will feature 16 teams in total and some of the best teams in the world, such as Gambit, Heroic, Astralis, G2, and Virtus.pro, will be there to maybe test the waters on Ancient for the first time in an official match.
If you haven’t seen what Ancient looks like, you can watch the VOD of the DreamHack Masters Spring’s showmatch, where casters Chad “SPUNJ” Burchill and Alex “Machine” Richardson assembled teams with professional players for a five-vs-five match.
