Kjaerbye Leaves North

North have announced that they have parted ways with Markus “⁠Kjaerbye⁠” Kjærbye with immediate effect. In a statement, the Danish organisation explained that the decision was made following “thorough discussions” with the player and his representatives, adding that it was their wish to facilitate his “transition to his next endeavor”.

Kjaerbye has been out of action since early May, when he decided to take a break due to medical reasons after complaining of abdominal pains, breathing problems and chest cramps. The 22-year-old says that he is edging closer to full recovery and insists he still has a lot more to offer to the game.

“I’ve been really happy at North, but it has also been a bumpy road with many changes, and I feel that this break has made me see more clearly,” he told North’s website. “Currently, I still need some time, but I know I’m far from done with CS. This is what I know, and I look forward to my next adventure.”

Kjaerbye had signed a new contract with North in January, committing his future to the organisation that he had joined in February 2018 following his sudden departure from Astralis. During his near two-and-a-half-year tenure with North, he helped the team to win DreamHack Masters Stockholm 2018 and three DreamHack Open stops (Tours and Valencia in 2018, and Sevilla in 2019).

North did not announce whether changes will need to be made to their team, who finished in 7th-8th place in their last tournament of the season, cs_summit 6, and have been outside the top 20 all year long. Kristoffer “⁠Kristou⁠” Aamand, who filled in for Kjaerbye, has been seen playing for AGF again, but HLTV.org knows that he is tied to a permanent contract with North.
