Kiryu Coco to leave Hololive

Published

on

Kiryu Coco, the popular dragon vtuber from Japanese agency Hololive, will be bidding farewell on July 1.

The news comes via an official announcement from Hololive, which was “saddened by her decision to leave.” The agency”decided to honor her wishes,” however.

Coco herself reaffirmed her decision to leave and confirmed that she “will continue [her] activities until July 1.”

“The reason involves a lot of things I can’t talk about,” Coco said in an 11-minute video posted to her own channel. “So you won’t hear anything from me. I know that’s hard to accept.”

Coco is one of Hololive’s most popular streamers, with 1.18 million YouTube subscribers at the time of writing. Effectively bilingual in Japanese and English, the streamer garnered a large Western audience with content such as asking Reddit members to submit memes for review.

Coco was also instrumental behind the scenes in pushing for English-focused vtubers, proven right with the explosive success of the first English generation. Every first-gen English vtuber now boasts over one million subscribers, with Gawr Gura at a staggering 2.81 million, the most of any Hololive member, at the time of writing.

Her last video will be a graduation stream scheduled for July 1, 6am CT. Considering her penchant for going all out, expect to see an explosive full stop to the streaming career of the dragon kaichou, Kiryu Coco.

Quincy Crew won’t sign with other organizations for The International 10

Published

on

While preparing to compete at ESL Summer 2021 and boot camping for The International 10, Quincy Crew has decided to remain independent and will compete under its own banner on Dota 2’s biggest stage.

This decision was made after the team competed together at the WePlay Esports AniMajor, finishing in a tie for fifth place and securing a direct invite to TI10.

Since forming as a North American stack of players post-TI8 in 2018, QC has gone through many forms yet almost always operated with the same core of players and manager Jack “KBBQ” Chen. And what used to be a placeholder used to open doors for bigger sponsorships and contracts has now become “a team of people who believe in one another, ready to take on the world.”

“This isn’t the first time we’ve been in the position of an unsponsored team with a ticket to TI,”  KBBQ said. “In 2019, there were plenty of suitors looking for us to compete under their name and banner, and we happily took the best offer. Newbee treated us like family, and we couldn’t have asked for more. But this time, we won’t be going to TI as someone else.”

Unlike during the 2018-19 season when QC was signed by Forward Gaming and later by Newbee to compete at TI9, KBBQ and the team aren’t looking to play under a different banner this year. QC have been playing without an organizational sponsor since last March when the team was released by Chaos Esports Club and they’ve been playing with the same core players since signing Rodrigo “Lelis” Santos last June.

For now, the team will be evaluating partnerships and deals while working to provide merchandise for the fans who want to support the QC brand. But their main goal is to remain true to their vision.

“We are once again in discussion with possible partners and sponsors, but the name Quincy Crew will be at TI10 in one way or another,” KBBQ said. “Some things are beyond any price.”

QC are staying in Ukraine right now to practice for the ESL Summer 2021 event, which will run from June 16 to 20. Once that’s done, the team will head home, take a small break, and meet back up for a TI10 boot camp in July.

“To those who have supported us, stayed up to watch our games, and shared in our anguish, we may not know who all of you are, but are thankful regardless for each and every one of you,” KBBQ said. “Every encouraging message, every text, every flair or frog, and every tussle with the haters counts. We will repay you in Stockholm.”

QC’s first match at ESL Summer will be at 7am CT on June 17 against the winner of Team Liquid vs. Tundra Esports.

Huynh released from Gen.G’s VALORANT team, becomes free agent

Published

on

Danny Huynh is no longer contracted to Gen.G’s VALORANT team, the 26-year-old Canadian player announced today.

Huynh, a former CS:GO pro, was a part of the FRENCH CANADIANS roster that was picked up by Gen.G in May 2020 when the North American organization entered VALORANT’s professional scene. He helped the team win tournaments like the T1x Nerd Street Games Invitational, Pittsburgh Knights Tournament Series, and Pulse Invitational between May and July in the early stages of the competitive scene in North America. But the team couldn’t replicate the same results in the VCT events.

“As of today, I am officially released from Gen.G,” huynh said on Twitter. “I would like to thank them for everything that they have done for me. I am now a free agent LFT. I have T1 experience on duelist/sova/sage/op and I am comfortable on controller/sentinel.”

The 26-year-old was benched shortly after Gen.G earned a top-eight finish at the VCT Stage Two Challengers Two open qualifier in April, missing out on the chance to grab a spot in the main event. The organization brought in Nicholas “NaturE” Garrison, who was on Immortals’ bench, to replace huynh in May.

VALORANT teams from all over the world are making roster changes now before the VCT circuit kicks off again. There are some organizations, such as T1, that are still evaluating moves, so we could definitely see huynh get picked up by another team before the VCT Stage Three kicks off in July.

Mario Party Superstars Announced During Nintendo Direct E3 2021

Mario Party Superstars was announced Tuesday as a part of a Nintendo Direct for E3 2021. The next installment in the classic party game series will feature 5 revamped maps from previous Nintendo 64 Mario Party games, and feature over 100 different minigames from the entire series.

Fans of old school Mario Party games were no doubt thrilled, with Space Land and Peach’s Birthday Cake being featured in the accompanying trailer for the new game. During the Treehouse event after, more gameplay for Mario Party Superstars was featured in a 40 minute demo.

Mario Party Superstars will release Oct. 29, and feature something brand new to the series: online multiplayer. The series has lacked online play for quite a while, so players looking to play with their friends without trying to wrangle them all in a room can breathe a sigh of relief.

The game will feature all the classic Mario Party characters like Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Peach, as well as some more niche characters revealed in the trailer, like Birdo and Rosalina. A full roster will most likely be revealed as the game’s launch date grows closer.

While many fans were excited by the news of a new Mario Party game, some wondered why this wasn’t a DLC for the still popular Super Mario Party. Nintendo hasn’t commented on this yet, but it seems players will have to fork over the standard $59.99 to experience the revitalized new entry.

Other news from the E3 2021 Nintendo Direct include a teaser for the Breath of the Wild sequel, a new Wario Ware game, and a new Metroid game for the Switch.

WoW: The Burning Crusade Classic Arena PvP season one begins today

Published

on

The first season of ranked Arena PvP for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic will start today

With it, Arena season one brings three arenas for players to battle in—The Ring of Trials in Nagrand, the Ruins of Lordaeron in Tirisfal Glades, and the Circle of Blood in the Blade’s Edge Mountains. The Ring of Trials and Circle of Blood have both been updated in the retail version of WoW, giving players the chance to battle in their original layouts once again.

To participate in Arena battles, players will have to assemble teams consisting of two, three, or five players. From there, they must speak to an Arena Battlemaster located in a major city.

If players participate in and win enough games during a certain week, they’ll be eligible to earn Arena Points. Arena Points are awarded to players at the beginning of each weekly reset and are distributed based on how high the player and their team’s rankings are. Arena Points can be used to purchase endgame-quality gear that’s only accessible to high-ranked PvP players.

Additionally, for players who are in the upper echelon of the PvP community when season one comes to a close, special titles and rewards are also in order. Players who are ranked in the top 35 percent of players at the season’s close will earn the “Challenger” title, while players who are ranked in the top 10 percent will get the “Rival” title. If a player finishes in the top three percent, they’ll receive the “Duelist” title.

But if a player finishes in the top 0.5 or top 0.1 percent of all Arena players this season, they’ll earn the “Gladiator” and “Infernal Gladiator” titles, respectively. Players who achieve the rank of “Infernal Gladiator” will also receive the exclusive Swift Nether Drake mount.

It’s unclear how long the first season of PvP will last. But if we use the original release of The Burning Crusade as a relative example, season one lasted a little under five months during its original run in 2007.
