k0nfig, blameF join Astralis; ave to coach

Date:

Astralis have announced the addition of former Complexity duo Benjamin “blameF” Bremer and Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke to their lineup, as well as ex North coach and Counter-Strike 1.6 veteran Alexander “ave” Holdt as the new head coach.

The two new players will begin playing with the team immediately as they prepare for their debut under the Astralis banner at the BLAST Premier Fall Final (November 24-28), while ave will join them “the soonest possible.”

dupreeh, zonic, and Magisk will make space for the new additions as they are set to depart the organization when their contracts expire in January, marking an end to a long tenure in what many see as the most successful core CS:GO has ever seen, holding four Major titles (three in Magisk‘s case) and a plethora of trophies from other big tournaments.

k0nfig and blameF join Astralis effective immediately

While the organization lists Lucas “Bubzkji” Andersen in the lineup for BLAST Premier Fall, it is widely expected that the 23-year-old will be taking a step back from the team moving forward after he was placed on the sidelines at the PGL Major Stockholm.

“In the midst of the joy of having the team in place, I would like to emphasize my and the organization’s huge respect for Danny, Emil, and Peter,” Astralis Director of Sports, Kasper Hvidt, said. “They are true legends in Astralis and will always be first in the history books when our story is written.”

k0nfig and blameF join Astralis following a tumultuous tenure in Complexity, who disbanded last month after they were unable to find stability in the roster for months, in part due to the former’s untimely wrist injury during the off-season. They will be looking to get a fresh start after leaving the Dallas-based organization, with whom they won BLAST Premier Spring 2020 Europe Finals but otherwise struggled for deep runs over a two-year period.

“When Astralis calls, you need really good arguments to hang up, and the conversations I’ve had confirm my impression: This is where I want to be now and going forwards,” blameF said. “These are some huge shoes to fill in, but I also feel I can bring something new to the team and make a real difference.”

The move will see blameF give up leadership, a role he undertook for the past two years in Complexity: “I am excited to play with gla1ve, one of the very best in-game leaders in the world. It means I can concentrate more on my own game and become a better player for myself and my teammates.”

“I have tremendous respect for everything Astralis has achieved through the years, and I am very aware we are taking over after some extremely popular players,” k0nfig added. “It only motivates me even more! Naturally, we are not those guys, but we are here to build on what they have achieved and to take the next big steps in the Astralis journey.”

Astralis will field the following six at the BLAST Premier Fall Final from November 24-28:

Denmark Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander
Denmark Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth
Denmark Lucas “Bubzkji” Andersen
Denmark Philip “Lucky” Ewald
Denmark Benjamin “blameF” Bremer
Denmark Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke
