Jensen picks Annie in Mid-Season Showdown against TSM

Date:

Team Liquid mid laner Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen picks Annie in game two of the Mid-Season Showdown lower bracket final. The Danish player has teased the pick for most of the season. He would hover it in the champion select phase and has spammed the fire mage in ranked queues. But, he locked in the champion as the team’s last pick as they were up one game against TSM.

The pick had become somewhat of a joke on the League Championship Series broadcast and Team Liquid’s Twitter. Jensen has also pulled the champion out in some scrims according to the game’s caster Sam “Kobe” Hartman-Kenzler.

Annie is not a meta champion this season and has only seen Summoners Rift six times so far. All six picks were in the mid lane with a 50% win rate. The champion has the same win rate against Jensen’s lane opponent’s champion, Lucian. Annie can be a counter pick against Lucian, as her auto attacks do outrange him. She can also stun and burst the champion before he can whittler her down with his auto attacks. But, Annie has a simplistic play-style as a mage and can be countered with good teamplay.

How Jensen’s Annie pick did

On the Annie, Jensen started off slow. He was dove under tower before 10 minutes and had a rough laning phase after the gank. He was pressured for the rest of the early game as he lost his tower to Rift Herald. Jensen, along with the rest of the team, were set behind in the mid game, down over 8,000 gold at one point. But, Team Liquid rallied back and won the second game in the series.

Jensen ended the game with a 3/2/12 score line. He built Hextech Rocketbelt, Zhonya’s Hourglass and Void Staff by the end of the game. His main Keystone was Electrocute with his secondary in the Sorcery line.
