Other speakers at the conference include Square Crypto’s Steve Lee and Conor Okus, OKCoin’s Hong Fang, Chainalysis’ Phillip Gradwell, the MIT Digital Currency Initiative’s Dr. Neha Narula, Blockstream’s Adam Back, and ARK Invest’s Sam Korus.
Musk was said to be planning a live chat with Bitcoin supporter Dorsey late last month, but further events suggested that The Word wasn’t finalized until Monday’s developments.
“The B Word,” Aims At Attracting More Institutions To Bitcoin
The Crypto Council for Innovation, which sees itself as a “global alliance of crypto industry experts with a purpose to showcase the revolutionary promise of crypto and convey its advantages to politicians, regulators, and people throughout the world,” is organizing ‘The B Word.’
Musk unofficially agreed to speak at the conference last month in a Twitter exchange with Dorsey; today’s announcement from the Crypto Council for Innovation is the first indication that the notoriously volatile leader has committed to appear.
The views of Dorsey and Musk on Bitcoin differ slightly. Whereas Dorsey has been outspokenly enthusiastic about Bitcoin, Musk has expressed worry about the blockchain’s massive energy usage.
Tesla stated in February that it will begin taking Bitcoin for payment but then dissented in May. “Cryptocurrency is a fantastic idea on many levels, and we believe it has a bright future,” Musk wrote at the time.
True believers, like Dorsey, stated they wish to minimize the environmental effect of proof-of-work crypto mining. However, detractors argue that it is a terrible concept that would result in more energy pollution in the long run.
