Its Time to Change the Way we Game: There’s no More Reasons not to Switch to VR

Date:

We’re out of excuses, VR is ultimately the future of gaming

Evan Bartosch

In the past, there has been so many arguments made about why VR isn’t the already the standard in gaming. It been said that “VR doesn’t have good graphics,” “VR is too expensive,” or “VR is too complicated to set up.”

These arguments are now old and outdated, and with new virtual reality headsets like the Oculus quest 2, an easy to set up, affordable, and high performing VR headset, the arguments just don’t apply anymore.

Don’t get me wrong, there are problems with VR. For starters, Motion Sickness. Being in VR for too long can warp our perception of reality, leaving us nauseous, dizzy, and uncoordinated. The fix to this problem though, is to take frequent breaks-about every 30 minutes-to “cool down” and readjust to reality. There is also new tech as cited here:sciencedaily.com that subtly adjusts your field of view to combat motion sickness. All of this can help with the motion sickness caused by VR.

The second problem is performance. Your not going to get the same resolution and graphics quality on a VR headset as on a console, unless you pay a very pretty penny. The Oculus quest 2 is the same price as the Xbox series S(a gaming console by Microsoft), but the Xbox is able to have much better graphics quality. There’s no fix for this until the tech gets better. Who knows how fast it’ll evolve though, I mean tomorrow VR might be able to have better graphics than console. All and all, we just need to give VR some time to evolve graphics-wise.

As I said earlier the Oculus quest 2 is the same price as an average console, making VR gaming no more expensive than regular console gaming. In addition, the Oculus is an all in one headset, meaning it’s super easy to set up. And finally, even though its graphics aren’t as “good” as the Xbox or PlayStation, the Oculus quest 2 is pretty high up there with graphic quality you’d likely see on a Nintendo switch.

VR games are also fun and immersive. VR burns calories too, and can be a great workout. Read more about getting fit with VR here: new years resolution to get fit? buy a vr headset

With new innovation and today’s technology, VR is cheaper, simpler, safer, and better than ever. Excuses to not use VR are dwindling, and in my humble opinion I think VR should be the new standard in gaming(or even fitness!)
