A Closer Look To The All-New PlayStation Plus

Data:

Sony announced the new PlayStation plus is starting to roll out yesterday with new features and benefits, so let’s see what they are.

Sony had previously revealed that they were planning on expanding its PlayStation Plus service in May and June 2022. Finally yesterday, on a post sul blog on their website, they said they were bringing together PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now, in what is essentially a slight rebranding.

They’re introducing two more tiers of subscription in an effort to “…provide more choice and value to customers across three membership plans globally.” The rollout started in Asia, excluding Japan, yesterday and it will launch in most countries with PlayStation Network available. Here is the full schedule:

  • Asia (excluding Japan): launches starting May 23, 2022
  • Japan: targeting June 2, 2022
  • North and South America: targeting June 13, 2022
  • Australia, New Zealand and Europe: targeting June 23, 2022

What are the new PS Plus Memberships?

Sony will start to offer three tiers of membership plans across the globe: Essential, Extra, and Premium (Deluxe in non-streaming markets). They are trying to create a diverse and optimized game catalog for people who are subscribed to Extra or Premium (Deluxe).

Essenziale

Essential tier membership is for anyone who wants to continue with their current PlayStation Plus plan. It is a rebranding of PS Plus we know today. This tier will give everyone one PS5 game and two PS4 games each month as part of their membership, as well as access to online multiplayer, cloud storage, and exclusive discounts.

Extra

Extra Membership essentially combines pre-existing PS Plus with PS Now under a single service and adds to it the new PS 5 titles. If you want extra PS 4 and PS 5 games added to your PS Plus package this will be the option for you.

The catalog will reach up to 400 games, all of the being downloadable. These line-up at the launch includes Death Stranding, God of War,  Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Mortal Kombat 11 among many others.

Premium/Deluxe

The new Premium and Deluxe plans are essentially the same but offered in different markets. The key difference is Premium markets have access to the cloud while Deluxe ones don’t. So Deluxe is just Premium without the ability to stream PS3 games.

For premium, on top of everything included in the PS Plus Essential and Extra tiers, you’ll also have the ability to stream PS3 games to your console. You will also have access to old catalogs and some time-limited game offers.

While it’s been expected the PS Plus Deluxe tier will be cheaper than PS Plus Premium, official pricing for it hasn’t been announced just yet.
