Is Steam down? Here’s how to check Steam’s server status

Published

on

If you’ve been experiencing problems with using certain features or connecting to Steam, you’re not alone.

Because Valve’s platform is used by millions of users around the world, it often encounters specific errors and problems that will impact user experience on the platform for everything from players trying to play their games or purchase new products.

The most recent example of this is the widespread report of user issues and errors that popped up as soon as the reservation period for Valve’s new handheld system, the Steam Deck, started. Just minutes after the pre-orders went live, Steam users were met with long waiting times, error messages, and endless loading screens while attempting to place their orders.

The Steam Deck problems didn’t necessarily affect every aspect of Valve’s gaming platform, but it’s impacted the store. It appears that this has also resulted in login issues, though that varies from person to person.

You can check the Steam community hub, SteamDB, for specific status information, including how many users are online, how different areas of the platform are performing, and more.

There isn’t an easy fix for Steam being down since it’s usually a problem on Valve’s end, but you can always try restarting Steam to see if you have better results.

Dota 2’s 7.30d patch buffs Clinkz, nerfs Silencer, and adds a lot of rebalancing

Published

on

Less than two weeks away from the start of The International 10, Valve has released a new gameplay update that rescales a lot of moves today in some last-minute balancing before the biggest Dota 2 event of the year.

The 7.30d patch changes in the eyes of most fans involve Clinkz getting even stronger, Silencer taking significant nerfs, and some general confusion at the wording of changes made to Zeus’s Static Field.

For the Zeus changes, Thundergod’s Wrath was buffed to scale damage from 300/400/500 to 300/425/550, but Static Field saw the following adjustment:

  • Damage no longer counts as HP removal (Heavenly Jump can now put blink dagger on cooldown and affects effects that are canceled by damage like healing salve).

This initially confused some players reading through the patch, but it essentially means that instead of simply removing HP from opposing heroes, the move will now actively deal damage. This will allow it to interact with more abilities, effects, and items directly.

Clinkz is already a pretty strong hero generally, and now Burning Barrage will do an additional five percent in total attack damage, up to 65 percent from 60 percent. Additionally, Burning Barrage Arrows were increased to plus three as a level 20 Talent.

Silencer received some sizable nerfs, with the Arcane Curse Silence Penalty Multiplier reduced from 2x to 1.7x and Last Word’s Scepter Radius going from 650 to 500. People are still actively calling for more Vengeful Spirit nerfs, but this patch only affected her by decreasing her Agility Gain from 3.4 to 3.2.

Other heroes like Tiny, Tinker, and Bane had several moves nerfed and rescaled to be slightly more balanced, while others like Broodmother, Timbersaw, and Wraith King saw buffs for the same reason. Additionally, several Neutral Items and Overwhelming Bling were also reworked.

You can read the full patch notes on the official Dota 2 blog.

How to charge an iPhone 13?

Published

on

Apple customers may have noticed that iPhone boxes got noticeably smaller starting with the iPhone 12, when Apple removed some parts from the inside of the box. Like last year, iPhone 13 series doesn’t come with a charger, hence the smaller boxes.

Users will still receive charging cables, meaning you’ll only need an adapter to charge your iPhone 13. While most adapters will do the trick, it’s important to avoid using other third-party charging equipment for iPhones since they have different voltage values.

If this is your first time purchasing an iPhone and you don’t have an extra iPhone charger, then you’ll need to order one. The official charger will often be the best choice since it was designed to be used with the iPhone.

Alternatively, you can also try out wireless charging since iPhone 13 models all support the feature. Placing your iPhone 13 on top of a wireless charger will be enough to start charging the battery. A power bank can also be an alternative, but you’ll need a cable to fully charge your iPhone 13 with a power bank.

Users who are looking to preserve their battery’s health can try keeping their charge levels around 20 and 72 percent. Letting your phone run out of battery or charging it to the max levels can degrade your battery life. Apple also offers battery replacements, so if your battery degrades faster than normal, you can always get it replaced to keep your iPhone new.

Overwatch game director hints at new heroes next OWL season, confirms all 32 heroes will return in the sequel

Published

on

All 32 characters will return to the fight in the next Overwatch League season, according to Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller—and fans may even see new faces when the competition’s next season starts.

During today’s Overwatch League grand finals broadcast, Keller revealed all 32 heroes from Overwatch will return in the OWL’s 2022 season, which will run in an early build of Overwatch 2. He also hinted at the possibility of “a few more” new faces.

“Our plan is that we will have all of those heroes, all 32 of those heroes, playable for the next season of Overwatch League,” Keller said. “And who knows, there might even be a few more.”

Although we don’t have any information on who these heroes are, the next season of the OWL running on an early build of Overwatch 2 provides an opportunity to glimpse a few of the new characters when the competition kicks off in April, as hinted by Keller.

In addition to Keller’s hints, the OWL grand finals halftime exhibition match showcased several returning heroes and led fans through the new Push map, Rome. This was also our first glimpse at professional gameplay involving the Sombra and Bastion reworks, announced earlier in the show. Keller noted that more reworks for existing heroes are on the horizon, though he didn’t give any further details.

Sojourn, revealed in full during BlizzConline 2019, is one of the new heroes in Overwatch 2, but it’s still unclear if she will be available during the next season of the Overwatch League. The Canadian hero will join the roster alongside a new Push map located in the snowy city of Toronto when Overwatch 2 releases, and she will bolster the ranks of damage-focused heroes armed with her railgun—the first of its kind in the franchise.

Although fans can get a taste of Overwatch 2 when the next season of the OWL kicks off in April, the sequel doesn’t have a set release date yet.

Shanghai Dragons win the 2021 Overwatch League championship

Published

on

It may have taken a few years, but the Shanghai Dragons have finally soared to new heights.

In a 4-0 sweep against the Atlanta Reign, the Dragons earned the 2021 Overwatch League championship and solidified an incredibly dominant season today. After winning two tournaments in a row earlier this year, the Shanghai Dragons arrived ready to claim the crown.

The first map, Ilios, was a relatively even affair, with Atlanta running their signature rush style against Shanghai’s aggressive dive. While the Reign’s DPS fought valiantly, the Dragons set the pace on both rounds and took the map with a dominant win.

Atlanta next took us to Hanamura, one of the team’s most historically successful maps as far as playoffs were concerned. Reign completed the map and put up a solid fight, but Shanghai were up to their old tricks. Last year’s MVP Kim “Fleta” Byung-sun was back in pristine form on Pharah and repeatedly stopped the Reign’s attacks. Shanghai went up 2-0, but Atlanta certainly didn’t make it simple for them.

The Reign unsurprisingly brought Shanghai to King’s Row next, a map that highly favored all of Atlanta’s best heroes. In the closest map of the series, Shanghai brought out what looked like a new composition to deal with the Reign’s rush.

Dragons flex support Kim “Izayaki” Min-chul stunned on his signature Zenyatta while Grand Finals MVP Lee “LIP” Jae-won rotated through heroes and caused destruction on all of them. Atlanta’s pro sniper Kai Collins did his best on Hanzo to deal with the assaults, but Shanghai overtook his team in the end.

On the final map, Havana, Atlanta pushed through some of Shanghai’s defenses to claim two points of the Escort map. Unfortunately for them, that effort wasn’t quite enough, and former MVP Fleta destroyed Atlanta’s defenses with one final Pulse Bomb to seal the deal.

By winning the 2021 Grand Finals, the Shanghai Dragons also close up a key part of the organization’s past. In the inaugural Overwatch League season, the original Shanghai Dragons roster was the only team to go completely winless, racking up a 0-40 season record. Three years later, after a massive reconstruction and new fervor for the game, the team has now taken home the final championship from Overwatch’s original iteration with a 4-0 score.

As this season’s champions, the Shanghai Dragons have won $1.5 million in prize money as well as the gleaming Overwatch League trophy. The Atlanta Reign will take home $750,000 as runners-up.
