The story

Engage creator Immersive VR Education has struck an agreement with digital learning solutions provider Virtual College to collaborate on immersive training projects.

Virtual College, based in the UK, has an enterprise focus, with its vocational digital courses covering topics such as safeguarding, health and safety, business compliance, leadership and management.

To date, Virtual College has supported more than 4.2 million registered online learners across both public and private sectors.

Through its partnership with Ireland-based Immersive VR Education, Virtual College will develop digital training projects and programmes that use the Engage education and learning VR platform.

The terms of projects will be agreed on an individual basis, according to Immersive VR Education.

They have already identified commercial opportunities in healthcare, infrastructure, defence and security, and solutions created through the partnership will be available to customers across the UK, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.

Immersive VR Education has had a successful year, securing investment from HTC and an ongoing partnership with HTC Vive that resulted in the Engage platform joining the new Vive XR Suite.

Commenting on this new partnership, David Whelan, chief executive officer of Immersive VR Education, said: “Virtual College shares our passion for giving businesses and individuals effective learning solutions.”

“We are delighted to have formed this exciting partnership to enable customers to benefit from a combination of our immersive Engage platform alongside the award-winning content provided by Virtual College.”

Rod Knox, chief executive officer of Virtual College, added: “We have always focused on using new technology to enhance the traditional approach to training, and our work with VR Education to deliver training using virtual reality, really helps accelerate that theme.”

“I am tremendously excited at the prospects for our combined proposition and look forward to progressing our relationship in the years ahead.”

Training and education use cases for immersive technology have come thick and fast over the past few weeks and months.

To most working in immersive tech, these applications were obvious. And indeed, this interest is nothing new.

But why has there been such a flurry of headlines, from the launch of VictoryXR Academy to PwC’s blockbuster study?

The coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has clearly created a need for digital training and learning solutions, but has it also revealed a need that was always there?
