HP Reverb G2 to Begin Shipping November for Early Pre-order Customers

Date:

HP announced its new PC virtual reality (VR) headset, the Reverb G2 earlier this year launching pre-orders for the $600 USD headset soon after. For those customers awaiting their new headset and for those keen on acquiring one HP has confirmed when pre-orders will be shipping.

If you got your pre-order for the HP Reverb G2 in during the first wave then shipments begin early November. “Pre-orders are expected to be prioritized for the time/date the order was made to our channel partners,” HP notes. If you’re still looking to purchase one then pre-ordering now will mean you get it early December instead.

Developed in collaboration with Valve and Microsoft the HP Reverb G2 features technology from both companies as well as improved features over HP’s previous headset. The device offers 2160×2160 per eye panel resolution with the optics design by Valve. You’ll also notice the audio solution comes from the Valve Index, with off-ear speakers rather than headphones. There’s also inside-out tracking as found on Windows Mixed Reality headsets.

HP has also revealed several improvements to the design since the initial unveiling:

  • “We have updated the lenses to reduce the Fresnel ring reflections and improve clarity.”
  • “The menu button on the controllers is now domed so you can distinguish between the Windows and Menu buttons by touch.”
  • “In addition to the full size to mini display port adapter, a USB-C® to USB-A adapter will be included in every box.”
  • “Our Engineers found an opportunity to lower persistence without lowering brightness and this required higher power draw, so the HP Reverb G2 will require the adapter to be plugged into the wall.”

It’s not just the enhance specifications which has got many VR enthusiasts interested in the upcoming device. A couple of months ago Microsoft and Asobo Studio’s new Microsoft Flight Simulator was confirmed to be a launch title for the HP Reverb G2, the only headset with official support.

Additionally, now that Facebook is discontinuing the Oculus Rift S to solely focus on Oculus Quest 2 – as well as the login restrictions – PC VR fans are looking for alternative options for high-end immersive gaming, with the HP Reverb G2 becoming an attractive option.
