The next Nintendo Direct is coming Thursday, Sept. 23, the company announced Wednesday. As with most Nintendo Direct broadcasts, Nintendo has shared a brief description of what the broadcast will focus on. Unlike most Direct broadcasts, the Federal Communications Commission appears to have leaked some of what’s coming. Here’s what you need to know about the next Nintendo Direct broadcast.

The next direct is scheduled to begin Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. ET.

Viewers can tune into the broadcast via the Nintendo YouTube channel, which is embedded here.

Per Nintendo, the broadcast will feature “roughly 40 minutes of information focused mainly on #NintendoSwitch games launching this winter.”

Nintendo already has plenty of games set for release this year, including Metroid Dread, Mario Party Superstars, Shin Megami Tensei V, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl and Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp.

The broadcast could also include games coming out in the beginning of 2022, as that’s still winter. That expands the pool of possible appearances to include Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Splatoon 3, Project Triangle Strategy, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and the sequel to Breath of the Wild — but don’t hold your breath for all these games. Many don’t have release windows beyond 2022, so they’re far from guaranteed to appear.

Nintendo requested a confidentiality agreement with the FCC earlier this month for an item described only as “game controller.” That agreement ensured the item would remain secret for up to six months. Now, the FCC says the secrecy is set to end Friday, and it seems likely Nintendo will reveal the controller itself before the FCC publishes any images. As a result, it’s plausible Nintendo reveals this new controller during Thursday’s Direct.

It’s unclear what shape this new controller will take, but it is confirmed to be a Switch peripheral thanks to its model name on the filing. All previous Switch hardware has used the HAC prefix, and this new controller is named HAC-043.
