NIP COO to step in for THREAT at BLAST Premier Fall Groups

Published

on

NIP will be joining the BLAST servers without their coach Björn “THREAT” Pers, who was left off the team sheet due to “unforeseen personal circumstances”. Instead of the 33-year-old Swede, Hampus “hampus” Poser and co. will be having the team’s Chief Operating Officer Jonas Gundersen assisting in the matches during the group stage.

THREAT‘s omission was described as a temporary situation by the organization, with the coach set to return to his position for the following events. Even at BLAST, THREAT will be helping the team as much as possible as they are set to clash with the likes of BIG and G2.

THREAT will still be working with the team during the event

“Due to some short-term unforeseen personal circumstances, potentially making me unavailable for the games, we thought it was better that we had a coach registered that we knew could be with the team, and let Jonas [Gundersen] do it instead for BLAST Groups,” THREAT said in a statement to HLTV.org. “I am still there 100% working with the team, and hope to be there for the games as well, although not on the server!”

KT Rolster to represent Korea at the Wild Rift World Championship 2021

Published

on

KT Rolster won the League of Legends: Wild Rift Champions Korea (WCK) today after a convincing 4-0 victory over Break Frame Gaming in the finals, earning themselves a spot at the Wild Rift World Championship 2021.

The organization, which also competes in the LCK, may not have qualified for the League of Legends World Championship but will compete on the world stage in the mobile game. The inaugural Wild Rift World Championship 2021 will happen later this year with 10 teams from around the globe. KT Rolster will be the sole Korean team in the event.

The WCK took place at the LoL Park in Seoul, South Korea, the same venue used for the LCK. Eight teams—three invitees and five qualified teams—battled for a spot at the World Championship and a share of the 80,000,000 South Korean won (approximately $67,680) prize pool.

KT Rolster cruised through the event and didn’t lose a single game. They placed first in their group after defeating Break Frame Gaming, Let’s Go to Mars, and Baby is 87 to advance to the playoffs, where they went up against T1. They took down T1 3-0 to set up a finals clash against Brake Frame Gaming, whom they also thrashed in back-to-back games, taking the series with a score of 4-0.

KT Rolster will have high expectations on their shoulders as they head to the first World Championship for Wild Rift. South Korea has been an immensely successful region in League on PC’s World Championships. Teams from the country have won it six times since its inception in 2013.

Bad News Bears, paiN, TeamOne, GODSENT qualify for IEM Fall NA

Published

on

After the first day of the IEM Fall North America closed qualifier, Bad News Bears, paiN, TeamOne, and GODSENT have all advanced to the main event after winning their initial matches. As a result of six teams moving on from the eight team closed qualifier, the simple double-elimination bracket only consists of six games, four of which took place on Saturday.

The remaining two matches, which constitute the lower bracket, are set to take place on Sunday, where the winners of ATK vs. RBG and Triumph vs. Strife will secure the final two spots at IEM Fall NA.

In the first set of matches, Bad News Bears took on South African side ATK, who made it through the second open qualifier. On the first map of Nuke, loan player Paytyn “junior” Johnson completely dominated, with 35 kills and a 2.02 rating, pushing Alan “Shakezullah” Hardeman‘s side to a 16-10 win. Inferno was much of the same, as a strong T-side allowed the American team to push their way into IEM Fall.

Bad News Bears still have a chance to qualify for the Major

paiN won their series in a similar fashion, putting up strong Terrorist sides and taking both maps of Inferno and Nuke without too much resistance. Wesley “hardzao” Lopes paved the way for the Brazilian side over the best-of-three, posting a 1.59 rating on Inferno.

Like both previous matches, Nuke was featured in the face off between GODSENT and Strife. The Brazilian project, who were recently reported to be signing Alan “AlaNDieg0R” Riveros as an analyst, took large leads early on in both maps. Strife had trouble stringing many rounds together, and ultimately fell to the power duo of João “felps” Vasconcellos and Epitacio “TACO” de Melo.

The first map between TeamOne and Triumph was more interesting than the score might show, as the longest-standing member of Triumph, Brendan “Bwills” Williams, put up a huge performance despite his team’s loss. The American secured 26 frags, 115 ADR, and a 1.59 rating.

Over the whole series though, it was Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa who stepped up big time for the Brazilian side, allowing them to take both maps without dropping more than 10 rounds each.

The main event of IEM Fall North America is set to begin on October 5, and will be played online. The twelve teams will be split into two groups of six which feed into a four team playoff bracket. Pursuant to Valve’s rules, the event will award RMR points to the top five teams of the tournament.

Here is the current team list for IEM Fall NA:
