How to Join a Friend’s Server in Project Zomboid

Date:

Project Zomboid has changed a lot over the years. Skills got more complex, loot got more varied and things are just as deadly. With all of the skills and items that have been added, there’s a lot to learn. And that’s without mentioning the ton of multiplayer features and mods in the game. It’s now possible to go into a multiplayer server for PZ and survive the zombie hordes together.

But before you can just hop in, you have to know how the system works. When a player wants to host a server, they need ot use the server hosting feature built into the main menu. By default, the servers hosted via this method are secured with a password and whitelist. This is to prevent unauthorized users from joining up.

When you want to join a game, you’re going to need the password. The server admin sets this at creation. Any servers will show up in the server browser when made via this method. Be sure to set a password and use the whitelist to invite only the users you want to join, admins. You can see the current server browser by clicking the Internet button on the main menu.

Making a server in Project Zomboid is just like making a normal singleplayer game. You may alter the settings for loot and zombie spawning, as well as the world conditions and timers for events. Simply name the server, set your passcode, and then choose your desired settings. After you’ve made the server with your desired settings, you’re good to go.

They can then invite friends on their Steam list using the “Invite Friend” function in the ESC menu, this makes it easy to get this done while already in the game. Once the admin invites you, you’re automatically whitelisted for that server, as long as it’s online..

There are plenty of other things to learn about the game as well. Before you go out on that supply run, make sure you’re well prepared for what’s to come. Basic tasks like boiling water are key to survival. You must know how to build defenses too. Cleaning up after yourself after all the zombie slaying is a good idea. You don’t want a bunch of blood hanging around. Burning corpses is also a great thing to do. It’s a good idea to learn how to deal with cuts and burns as well, which can keep you alive.

Finally, it’s a great idea to know how to alter the game settings, like removing zombie respawning. That can be pretty handy if you find the default game too hard.
