[HotS] Heroes of the Summer: Competition Update

Date:

Heroes of the Summer

Written by: Koznarov

Since Method Mayhem and CCL ended in June, we had a few weeks without Heroes esports. But fear not, there’s a lot of action ahead! Here we bring you a sneak peek of what’s coming next.

North America

PSISTORM Cup Online

July 11-18
Stream | Liquipedia

September 2018. PSISTORM Gaming, the team that moved from Southeast Asia to North America, finishes second in the Open Division. Do you remember them? Now PSISTORM is back in Heroes of the Storm as a tournament organizer. Some of the former Division S teams such as Celeb Gaming or ReGen have already heard the call and signed up for the action. The PSISTORM Cups have been going on for a while in StarCraft 2, but will this be the beginning of a new tournament series for Heroes of the Storm?

NGS Storm Division Qualifiers

July 29 – August 30
Stream | Liquipedia

Nexus Gaming Series partnered with HeroesLounge to organize the first Division S in North America. They are the home of amateur Heroes competitions in NA, and now they’re stepping up with their Storm Division to fulfill the void left by the HeroesLounge tournament. Even if they weren’t part of Division S Season 2, most of the participating teams were born and grew up in the NGS ranks, so this will be a natural transition for the teams and the organization.

The qualifiers for this league will take place during July and August on Wednesdays and Thursdays. We’ll see which teams thrive and make it to the Storm Division in the ever-changing North American scene.

Europe

Panda Cup

July 17 – August 6
Stream | Liquipedia

Panda Cup is organized by Agon League and stalk. You may remember this player and streamer for his victory with Team Russia in the 2018 Nexus Contest and Meta Madness #2. The format is similar to Method Mayhem, featuring three qualifying cups where teams can earn points after which the eight teams with most points will advance into a double elimination playoff stage. Many of the top notch European teams have already joined the pandas, so we’re sure there are some amazing games ahead of us.

Agon Premier League Season 2

August 1 – September 1
Stream | Liquipedia

Last June Agon League announced the second season of its Premier League. The former edition had a refreshing format different from anything we’d seen before. Players didn’t join the tournament with their teams, and instead teams were already created by the organization so that players could join them. We don’t know much about the second season yet, but the Panda Cup will be the perfect environment for Agon to test new features for the upcoming Premier League.

China

GHL 2020 Season 4

July 14-30
Stream | Liquipedia

The Gold Series Heroes League changed its format for 2020. Instead of the long leagues they used to have, now their tournaments are monthly with a quick group stage and a single elimination playoff. Tsunami took the first three seasons of this revamped GHL, but it looks like they won’t be participating in Season 4 (unless they’ve joined with another name, we won’t know until the tournament begins). Even without Tsunami, most of the top teams from previous seasons will be there, so victory will be far from easy.

These are just some of the many initiatives the Heroes community takes to push the game forward. Please share with us the ones we’ve missed. And don’t hesitate to tune in any of them or even join them as competitors.
