Heretics to reportedly lose VCT points after roster overhaul

Published

on

Heretics has traded four of its five VALORANT players since May, leaving just Christian “lowel” Garcia from the original lineup. As a result, the Spanish organization will enter Stage Three of the VALORANT Champions Tour with zero points, according to a report by VLR.gg.

Heretics earned 70 points from VCT Europe Stage One Masters event in March, where they lost to Acend in the grand finals. The European team, who dominated the scene in 2020 and most notably won First Strike Europe in December, struggled after this runners-up finish and didn’t earn any more VCT points since they were knocked out of the quarterfinals of both Challengers events in Stage Two.

VLR.gg reached out to Riot Games and a representative pointed to section 3.7.1 of the VCT Global Competition Policy, which says a team should keep at least a core of three players in its lineup if they want to play in a competition they’ve qualified for.

“Riot and the Tournament Operator will deem the Owner(s) who registered the Team to be the sole owner(s) of the Team and the Team’s slot in an Official Competition for purposes of this Global Policy and Event-Specific Rules,” the section reads. “Accordingly, if a Team wins the right to progress to the next stage of an Official Competition, that right is owned by the Team and its Owner(s), not by the players or any other person or entity. However, that right is contingent on the team retaining a minimum of three (3) players that were on the Team during the qualification process.”

The rules are the same when it comes down to VCT points, according to VLR.gg’s report. Since Heretics has made four roster changes, the organization reportedly won’t hold onto the 70 VCT points that the team earned at VCT Europe Stage One Masters.

Heretics’ current lineup features Ardis “ardiis” Svarenieks, Patryk “paTiTek” Fabrowski, Ondřej “MONSTEERR” Petrů, Felix “al0rante” Brandl, and lowel.

At time of writing, Heretics hasn’t commented on the matter.

Second Pokémon TCG Chilling Reign staff promo found ahead of release

Published

on

The return of Pokémon TCG staff promos looks to be imminent as a second player scores themself one from a Chilling Reign box ahead of its release.

According to a post on Pokémon forum Pokebeach, a second Cinderace staff promo from the upcoming TCG set Chilling Reign was shared with the site.

Image via Pokebeach

This time, the card was unboxed in Kansas City, Missouri, after a fan purchased a box via eBay that he claims was shipped from Wisconsin. Like the first appearance of this latest staff promo, the card was pulled from a Chilling Reign Build & Battle kit.

Last week, the very first Chilling Reign staff promo surfaced at a pre-release event in the United Kingdom. This sparked rumors that the limited edition staff cards could be set for a return after being phased out in December of 2020.

At the time, The Pokémon Company shared that they would no longer be producing staff promos and shortly after shared their plan to cease distribution. With two surfacing prior to the set’s official launch, we may see a whole lot of these cards showing up over the coming week.

Pokémon’s Chilling Reign set will launch on June 18 and you can check out a full list of the cards that will appear here. If you plan on scoring yourself some of these cards, we suggest you pre-order so your plan isn’t hindered by the day one crowd we’ve come to expect from Pokémon TCG in recent times.

OpTic Chicago put on dominating performance in 3-1 win over Los Angeles Thieves

Published

on

After a stunning upset loss to the Seattle Surge on June 10, OpTic Chicago bounced back with an emphatic 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Thieves today. OpTic showcased their dominant form in the series’ three respawn maps, going 3-0.

OpTic’s individual stats were dominant across the board, going an incredible 85 kills positive over the series’ four maps. FormaL had the lowest K/D on the team with a 1.29 while Scump led the way with an impressive 1.56 K/D. Chicago head into the Call of Duty League Stage Four major with a 3-2 record in group play, good for second in their group.

Chicago are a team that can be up or down on any given night, but if Chicago put on this kind of performance, it’s hard to see anyone beating them. Next week’s major tournament is the first event the Call of Duty League has had in person in over a year, and OpTic’s Envoy is excited about the prospect of playing on LAN.

“I mean, yeah, LAN’s LAN,” the star SMG player said. “We’re back on a fair playing field and we’re just excited to get back.”

Los Angeles seemed to have turned a corner with their new lineup of SlasheR, Huke, TJHaLy, and Kenny after a hard-fought loss at the hands of the Minnesota ROKKR on earlier in the week. Despite the loss, the Thieves played well and it looked like a match they could build off of heading into next week’s major. But the performance today left little to be inspired about since they were out-slayed by 85 kills in the 3-1 loss.

Kenny led the way with a 0.86 K/D while TJHaLy and SlasheR struggled, posting K/Ds of 0.58 and 0.61. Los Angeles has made many changes to its roster in the past month so it’s unlikely we will see any more shuffling of the roster. Still, this team has been playing together for less than a week and has a high ceiling, especially on LAN.

PSG.LGD sweep Evil Geniuses, win WePlay Esports AniMajor

Published

on

For the second straight Dota Pro Circuit, a dominant Chinese team defeated Evil Geniuses in the grand finals. PSG.LGD swept EG today to claim the WePlay Esports AniMajor title, $200,000, and 500 DPC points.

LGD battled through the group stage, earning a top seed and a spot in the upper bracket of the playoffs, where they defeated Alliance, Nigma, and T1 before ending their run with a 3-0 sweep of North America’s top team.

EG, who also earned a spot in the playoffs through the group stage, tore through the lower bracket to reach the grand finals. Their run included ending NoPing e-sports, TNC Predator, and Nigma’s chances at directly qualifying for The International 10, and beating both Vici Gaming and T1 to reach the AniMajor’s summit.

Despite being swept, EG kept things competitive in the final two games of the series after being blown out in game one. The NA team led for more than 40 minutes in game two but failed to close things out, losing the biggest fight of the series and dropping to 0-2.

LGD finished third at the ONE Esports Singapore Major earlier this season, losing to EG in the upper bracket finals before being eliminated by the eventual tournament winners, Invictus Gaming. EG fell just short of beating IG at the previous Major and now take another second-place finish behind a top Chinese squad.

Both LGD and EG were already locked in as the top two seeds for TI10 prior to reaching the finals and will now prepare to battle for their share of more than $40 million in Sweden starting on Aug. 5.

Toronto Ultra take down New York Subliners 3-0 in Call of Duty League Stage 4 group play

Published

on

The matchup between the Toronto Ultra and New York Subliners appeared to have all of the makings of a classic Sunday series in the Call of Duty League’s last day of matches before the CDL heads back to LAN. But Toronto had other ideas and closed out New York in a quick 3-0 series win.

Toronto, after losing to Florida Mutineers in their first match of Stage Four group play 3-2, have rattled off four straight series wins with a 12-0 map count, ending Stage Four with a 4-1 record ahead of next week’s major tournament. The Ultra’s 4-1 record also secures first place in Stage Four Group B. Cammy and Insight led the way for Toronto, posting 1.21 and 1.29 K/Ds, respectively.

New York came into today’s matchup with a 4-0 record, which included wins over Florida and the Dallas Empire, before the Ultra ended their undefeated group play record. The Subliners played relatively well and had a chance in all three maps, despite the 3-0 series loss. Unfortunately for New York, Toronto made plays at opportune times to shut the door on the Subliners multiple times. Asim was the only member of the Subliners to go positive with a 1.05 K/D.

These two teams have solidified themselves as the top teams in the CDL not named the Atlanta FaZe. Heading into the major, which will be held in Dallas for the league’s first LAN event in over a year, both the Ultra and Subliners will be favorites to make a run to Sunday alongside FaZe.

Both teams will be back in action for the Stage Four major tournament next week.
