European airline, Helvetic Airways has officially received its first Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. The Swiss regional airline currently has another three E195-E2 aircraft on order and according to the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, Helvetic Airways will receive the other three E195-E2s “by the end of next month, July 2021.”
Back in 2018, Helvetic Airways placed an initial order for 12 Embraer E190-E2 aircraft. The carrier subsequently decided to alter this order, opting to take only 8 E190-E2 aircraft in addition to four E195-E2s. The Swiss carrier has since received all 8 E190-E2s which are also now in service with the airline.
In a company statement, the CEO of Helvetic Airways, Tobias Pogorevc said “The structural changes in the demand for air travel that have emerged in recent months vindicate the strategic choices we made back in 2018.” The Chief Executive added that the airline now has “both the right types of aircraft and the right industry partner.”
Once the final 3 E195-E2s are delivered, Helvetic Airways will have a total of 16 Embraer aircraft in its fleet. The E195-E2 can carry a total of 134 passengers, which is 24 passengers more than the E190-E2 with 110 seats. The E195-E2 also has a maximum takeoff weight of 61.5 tonnes and has a range of around 4,815 kilometres (2,600 nm).
According to the President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, Arjan Meijer the Embraer E195-E2 should allow Helvetic Airways to build “on its reputation as one of the most environmentally committed airlines in Europe,” as the aircraft burns “25% less fuel than its predecessor,” and has a 65% smaller noise footprint.
According to Helvetic Airways, its first E195-E2 registered HB-AZI is scheduled to arrive at Zurich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland on Friday, June 25th. The carrier has also stated that Zurich Airport will be opening its observation deck from 16:30 local time to facilitate anyone who wishes to watch the aircraft on its arrival.
