Hearthstone 17.6 update nerfs Galakrond Rogue and Demon Hunter

Avatar

A fresh round of balance changes will hit Hearthstone with next week’s 17.6 update and it will likely make Galakrond Rogue and aggro Demon Hunter players cry just a bit.

It’s a harsh lesson to learn over and over again, but nothing in life is free. And for Hearthstone players getting powerful cards for free, their day is coming. Blizzard is closing some of its charity avenues with next week’s 17.6 update, impacting Galakrond Rogue decks heavily. And those who thought the Demon Hunter nerfs were finished, I’m afraid I have some bad news.

The following balance changes will be implemented on Tuesday, July 14, according to the Hearthstone website:

  • Dragonqueen Alexstrasza (Neutral): Now reads “Battlecry: If your deck has no duplicates, add 2 other random Dragons to your hand. They cost (1).” (Changed from “Battlecry: If your deck has no duplicates, add 2 other random Dragons to your hand. They cost (0).”)
  • Corsair Cache (Warrior): Draws a weapon and gives it +1 Durability. (Changed from drawing a weapon and giving it +1/+1)
  • Metamorphosis (Demon Hunter): Swap your Hero Power to “Deal 4 damage.” After 2 uses, swap it back. (Down from dealing 5 damage.)
  • Kayn Sunfury (Demon Hunter): Now has 3/4 stats (Down from 3/5 stats)
  • Warglaives of Azzinoth (Demon Hunter): Costs 6 mana (Up from 5 mana)
  • Dragoncaster (Mage): Costs 7 mana (Up from 6 mana)
  • Fungal Fortunes (Druid): Costs 3 mana (Up from 2 mana)
  • Galakrond, the Nightmare/Galakrond, the Apocalypse/Galakrond, Azeroth’s End (Rogue): Any cards drawn now cost 1 mana. (Up from 0 mana.)

Galakrond Rogue decks used to cruise by with all sorts of free cards. The Highlander build would run with Dragonqueen Alexstrasza and get free dragons. And Galakrond himself would grant the Rogue multiple free cards. Those cards are no longer free and will now cost (1) mana, which should disrupt those decks significantly. It should be noted that Rogue players can still pull some free cards with the aid of Heistbaron Togwaggle, so all is not lost for them.

Demon Hunters have only been around for a few months, but they’ve been the target of nerfs not once, but twice. And the first round of nerfs literally came the day after the class was released. This round of nerfs is focused on the Warglaives of Azzinoth, which have become a powerful weapon in the late game, working in conjunction with many of the Demon Hunter’s cheap spells. While Kayn Sunfury‘s effect makes it one of the better Demon Hunter minions in the game, its health also made it a strong tempo play on Turn 4, so its health reduction fixes the latter point. And then there’s Metamorphosis, which has become a reliable finishing play for the Demon Hunter. This pulls its punch back slightly, giving the opposing player more of a fighting chance.

These changes won’t kick in until this Tuesday, so get these last games in while you can. The Galakrond Rogue and aggro Demon Hunter decks (as well as the Highlander Mage and Spell Druid decks) are getting hit hard with these balance changes. If there are any further changes, Shacknews will be here to bring them to you, so stay tuned.

But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can’t enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Another Steam Game Festival Is Coming In October

Avatar

Published

The Steam Game Festival may be the only gaming-related show to have added extra dates instead of cancelling this year–and Geoff Keighley has just announced yet another edition of the online-only game festival will be gracing our screens before the end of the year.

The very first iteration of the Steam Game Festival was launched to coincide with Keighley’s Game Awards in December 2019, with the idea being to replicate the concept of a physical trade show even before the pandemic made such online events a necessity. Two more of the online events ran this year, with the first running when GDC should have taken place in March, and the Summer Game Festival running in June when E3 would have happened.

Now, the Steam Fall Games Festival will run from October 7 to 13, giving Steam users a chance to play free demos of upcoming games–usually comprised of games which are planning to release on Steam within the next year.

While nothing has yet been announced about the fate of Keighley’s Game Awards for 2020, we may get yet another iteration of the Steam Game Festival running alongside that event in December again this year.

This year’s Gamescom event is taking place virtually, and now we’ve learned a little more about it. The show will kick off with an Opening Night Live event hosted by Geoff Keighley, and it’s now been confirmed that it will have an original theme song written by Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda.

Shinoda is going to write this song live on Twitch, and the tweet announcing it suggests he will collaborate with commenters on what they want to hear. The songwriting event starts at 10 AM PT on August 12 here on Shinoda’s Twitch channel.

The Gamescom Opening Night Live takes place on August 27. It’s the beginning of Gamescom 2020 but the end of Keighley’s Summer Games Fest event. This is Keighley’s summer-long series featuring developer interviews and news events.

Next up for Summer Games Fest is the Baldur’s Gate III: Panel from Hell event on August 18 that promises new insights on the much-anticipated RPG. After that, Summer Games Fest continues on August 22 with the DC Fandome event with more news on Rocksteady’s new Suicide Squad game.

Oddworld: New ‘N Tasty Coming To Switch In October

Oddworld: Abe’s Odysee – New ‘n’ Tasty is coming to Nintendo Switch soon. The game, a full remake of the original Oddworld: Abe’s Odysee, will launch for the Nintendo hybrid system in October. A specific date has not been announced yet.

Oddworld Inhabitants released a trailer alongside the announcement, although because of the visual effects used it perhaps doesn’t give the best look at how the game will actually look and run on the system. You can watch it below.

The game has previously been released on PC, Wii U, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox One, iOS, and Android. The first release was back in 2014, and the original Abe’s Odysee came out in 1997. New ‘n Tasty is the third Oddworld title on the system, following the earlier releases of Stranger’s Wrath and Munch’s Odysee.

Another Oddworld remake is also in the works right now. Oddworld: Soulstorm, a remake of Abe’s Exoddus, is coming to PS5, along with PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Epic.

The game received an 8/10 in GameSpot’s 2014 review. Critic Dan Hindes called it ” a remake that feels as though it was crafted with love and respect.”

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.
