Halo Infinite Will Support Multiplayer Cross-Play and Cross-Progression

Microsoft announced on Thursday that Halo Infinite will support cross-play and cross-progression features alongside other PC specific options.

In a blog post about the company’s PC gaming plans for the future, Microsoft said that players will be able sync their multiplayer customization and progress across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One when it launches this fall. The game’s multiplayer was previously announced as free-to-play, so anyone will be able to carry their progress between platforms.

The PC version of Halo Infinite will also receive more options specifically for the platform such as “support for ultrawide and super ultrawide screens, triple keybinds, a wide variety of advanced graphics options, and more.”

Microsoft announced in the post that over 10 million players have played Halo: The Master Chief Collection since its PC launch in December 2019, and would continue to tailor the PC community with publishing games to multiple storefronts like Steam and increase the Xbox Game Pass for PC library.

The company also said it would be lowering its 30 percent cut of games sales net revenue of games sold on the Microsoft Store for PC from other developers to 12 percent. Developers will now keep 88 percent of revenue instead of 70 percent, which is the same rate as the Epic Games Store. It is also lower than Valve’s Steam revenue cut at 30 percent, then adjusted to 25 percent when the game makes $10 million, and then adjusted again to 20 percent at $50 million earned.

It appears Disney is teaming with DotEmu to bring a pair of classic LucasArts games that were originally released on the Super Nintendo to the Nintendo Switch. Zombies Ate My Neighbors and its sequel, Ghoul Patrol, are being made available for the switch under the Lucasfilm Classic Games Banner, courtesy of DotEmu on the Nintendo eShop (h/t NintendoEverything).

Players will be able to experience both games in a special double-pack collection with new enhanced features and brand-new museum features. Additionally, players will be able to save their progress in both games and continue whenever and wherever they want.

The new Museum Features has a video interview with one of the original Zombies’ developers, along with art galleries featuring unreleased concept images and marketing assets. Another bonus feature is the entire digital soundtrack for both titles in the music players.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Ghoul Patrol Coming to Nintendo Switch

The collection does have a 2-Player Mode, but based on the Nintendo eShop listing, it’s two-player local co-op only. So, it does not appear there will be online two-player co-op. Lastly, the collection features new game achievements for Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Ghoul Patrol.

Getting classic 16-bit era releases on newer generation hardware is definitely a nice way to keep the legacies of these games alive. LucasArts created some classic, memorable titles over the years. Hopefully, it’s a trend that can continue.

Currently, there only appears to be a Nintendo eShop listing for this release. The collection is due out June 29. You can view the trailer for the new Switch collection below.

Ubisoft, the video game company has selected the 12 blockchain startups that will comprise the 6th season of its Entrepreneurs Lab program, which will follow the “blockchain and positive entertainment products and services” theme.

The Entrepreneur Lab program aims to cooperate with startups working on developing the entertainment and technology of the future based on a common theme chosen by Ubisoft for each of its seasons.

The 12 blockchain startups selected for this iteration will receive support from Ubisoft experts on topics of common interest for the participants in the form of online means despite the program being anchored to Ubisoft’s incubator in Paris.

Virginie Haas, Chief Studios Operating Officer, referred to the new season of the program by stating:

“The Entrepreneurs Lab is a great program for innovative startups to collaborate closely with Ubisoft and for us to mutually benefit from each other’s expertise and ideas. In addition to our continued focus on Blockchain, this season’s track on creating positive impacts through entertainment is perfectly aligned with Ubisoft’s mission to enrich players’ lives through original and memorable game experiences. We are excited to welcome these startups to the program and start shaping the future of entertainment together.”

The 12 companies selected for the latest iteration of the program are located all around the world, with only one of them having participated in a previous season.

The companies that will be partaking in this season are Aleph (France), Anybrain (Portugal), Atlantide (France), BrainLeap (United States), Crucible (United Kingdom), Game Academy (United Kingdom), Guild of Guardians (Australia), Horizon (Canada), Lexiko (France), NonFungible (Canada), and Virtuleap (Portugal).

While all of the companies have a connection to blockchain technology, their backgrounds differ as some of them offer cloud infrastructure, security/anti-fraud solutions, SDK, WEB3, and NFT solutions, while others focus on the development of games for different platforms

Ubisoft is Not New to Blockchain

The game publisher and developer has been involved with the blockchain industry in the past, having established partnerships with platforms such as Enjin, as well as becoming one of the most important members of the Blockchain Game Alliance.

As the owner of some of the most famous game franchises of all time, including Assasin’s Creed, Just Dance, Tom Clancy’s, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs, Ubisoft represents a major driver of blockchain technology adoption in the gaming industry.

With the launch of Ubisoft’s Entrepreneurs Lab program, the gaming giant doubled down on its commitment to exploring and boosting the blockchain and crypto industries by facilitating the work of blockchain startups looking to disrupt the gaming industry.

Derek Lau, Game Lead for Guild of Guardians, referred to his company’s participation in the latest season of the accelerator program by stating:

“We share many values with Ubisoft around the power of positive entertainment, and the potential of open world economies. Blockchain and NFTs in gaming is an area that every top gaming studio in the world is currently looking at. We’re excited to share our learnings with Ubisoft and to get their unique perspective on how we can grow Guild of Guardians into a title with significant mainstream success.”

Gaming: The Gate to Mass Adoption

The gaming industry has quickly become the most important nice of the entertainment industry, surpassing both the Movies and Music industry combined as new generations become participants in the gaming community and nascent subcategories such as Esports.

Due to the potential that Non-Fungible tokens represent for the gaming industry, in addition to other benefits offered by blockchain, game developers have grown increasingly interested in exploring their applications on their current models.

Gaming has been considered by many experts as the perfect opportunity for crypto and blockchain to gain mass adoption, as it would provide gamers with the full benefits of the technology in a seamless manner.

Ubisoft is not the only company actively working on promoting blockchain within the game industry, with other companies like Atari, Matic, AMD, Tezos, Animoca Brands, and Algorand, becoming a part of the Blockchain Game Alliance, an organization dedicated to boosting blockchain adoption.

You can start the casino experience.

Next-Gen PSVR Might Have 4K, Vibration Feature

Sony’s been working on next-gen PlayStation VR for a while now, and now there’s a rumor that the upcoming headset could have several new features missing from its current-generation counterparting, including a higher resolution and possibly even haptic feedback inside the headset itself. If that’s true, it’d definitely put PSVR 2.0 ahead of its predecessor.

The report comes from UploadVR, which cites anonymous sources for the new claims. These are the new features we can expect, according to them: “Those details include a resolution of 4000×2080 pixels (2000×2040 per eye), a lens separation adjustment dial, and gaze tracking capable of foveated rendering. A motor in the headset can be used by developers to give direct haptic feedback.” Haptic feedback on controllers is one thing — we have that on the DualSense now — but haptic feedback on a headset would be very interesting.

Sony first announced PSVR 2.0 back in February, but it hasn’t not given us a definitive look at the new headset yet. As far as we know, it’ll connect to the PlayStation via a single cord. Sony also added in the initial announcement: “We’re taking what we’ve learned since launching PS VR on PS4 to develop a next-gen VR system that enhances everything from resolution and field of view to tracking and input.”

We’ve also been given our first glimpse of the next-generation PSVR controllers, which feature the same kind of finger tracking and shape as those for the Oculus headsets, as well as resistant triggers similar to the haptic controls on the PS5’s DualSense controller. They certainly look much better suited for the job than the PlayStation Move controllers ever were. If the new PSVR 2.0 headset is to the PSVR what the next-gen controllers are to the PS Move, it’s going to be a cool headset indeed.
