Geek Fam Wins the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series: Preseason – Malaysia. The action-packed tournament concluded on March 7, 2021, with a BO5 series that saw Geek Fam dominating Berjaya Dragons 3-2. The grand final was filled with intense outplays that left the audience at the edge of their seats. Geek Fam and Berjaya Dragons took first and second place in the tournament, with M8HEXA. Gluck taking third place. As the champions of the SEA Icon Series 2021: Preseason – Malaysia, Geek Fam will be one of the teams to compete in the Wild Rift SEA Icon series: Summer Season, an 8-week long competition against the best teams in each region.

Geek Fam Dominates SEA Icon Series: Preseason – Malaysia

Teams from across Malaysia showcased their skills, with Geek Fam rising to the top ranks by dominating the rest of the playing field, including Berjaya dragons in a BO5 match in the grand finals.

During the first game of the grand finals, Berjaya Dragons dominated the map. They managed to hinder Geek Fam’s gold income. It was all over for Geek Fam when they were denied Baron Buff, which Berjaya Dragons then pressed forward and ended the match. Geek Fam didn’t even manage to destroy at least one of Berjaya Dragon’s turrets. 

Geek Fam seemed to lost their touch as they performed worse in the second game. They failed to secure any Dragon Buff and couldn’t even break any of Berjaya Dragon’s turrets. At this point, Berjaya Dragons were dominating the grand finals. 

The third game is where it got interesting. Geek Fam made a counterattack and managed to gain control of the whole map. Berjaya Dragons were denied any Dragon Buffs and Baron Buff, which put them in an awkward position. Geek Fam managed to secure their first win in the grand finals.

The tide shifted to Geek Fam’s favor following this victory. Berjaya Dragons tried to push them back, but Ozora Veki’s Yasuo dominated the fourth match, gaining a massive advantage. Needless to say, there was no way for Berjaya Dragons to recover after they went 15k gold behind Geek Fam and couldn’t destroy any of their enemy’s turrets.

Geek Fam put the nail in the coffin in the final match. However, Berjaya Dragon’s put up a great fight, which almost flipped the tide in their favor. However, Geek Fam’s amazing team synergy and map control gave them the edge they need to secure the final win and took the crown as the champions of the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series: Preseason – Malaysia.

Geek Fam secured their third win in the grand final.

Despite them losing to Geek Fam, Berjaya Dragons is a force to be reckoned with. After being sent to the lower bracket by Geek Fam during the tournament’s early stages, Berjaya Dragons fought their way back to the top for another rematch at the grand finals. They were the only team who managed to give Geek Fam a tough fight in this tournament. It will be interesting to see how they fare in the SEA Icon Series.
