GameStop’s Fourth Of July Sale Is Live Now For PowerUp Rewards Pro Members

Fresh off of another Pro Day sale, GameStop has kicked off its Independence Day Sale early for PowerUp Rewards Pro members. Active members can start shopping today (July 1) before the sale opens up to everyone tomorrow. The sale isn’t huge, but it does have a pretty enticing promotion: buy two, get one free on all pre-owned PS4 and Xbox One games (sorry, Nintendo Switch owners). GameStop’s Independence Day Sale runs through July 4, so you have a few days to make your picks. As a reminder, if you’re shopping today, you need to be logged into your rewards account.

For some strange reason, the sale flyer shows old games like NBA 2K19 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. While older titles are included in the B2G1 free promotion, the sale is especially good if you’re looking for more recent, higher-priced games. Since every pre-owned PS4 and Xbox One game is up for grabs, it’s a matter of searching for what you want and seeing if it’s in stock. For instance, you’re not going to find pre-owned copies of The Last of Us 2, but you will find other big-name titles like Final Fantasy VII Remake, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Persona 5 Royal. As always, the cheapest of the three games you pick will be free, so make sure you’re getting the best bang for your buck.

PowerUp Rewards Pro members get an exclusive discount on pre-owned DualShock 4 and Xbox One wireless controllers. Today, members can pick up either controller for $30. Starting tomorrow, the price of the controllers goes up to $40, which is still a decent deal.

The sale also includes a neat promotion on collectibles. You’ll get 25 percent off if you spend $50 or more on collectibles, which means you can save $12.50 at minimum. GameStop has tons of collectibles, including Funko Pops, Star Wars and Marvel action figures, and anime statues. Not every collectible is included, so make sure to double check that you’re getting the discount. All clearance Marvel, Star Wars, and My Hero Academia collectibles are also 20% off (the offers don’t stack).

‘Outer Wilds’ is coming to Nintendo Switch this summer

Outer Wilds, one of our favorite games for 2019, is heading to Nintendo Switch. In the gaming giant’s latest Direct event, it showed an announcement trailer for the action-adventure game set in space that was previously released for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It didn’t have an exact release date for the title, but it said it will be available for the console this summer.

Developed by Mobius Digital and published by Annapurna Interactive, Outer Wilds puts the player in the shoes of an unnamed space explorer who wakes up on an Earth-like planet, which soon disintegrates after the solar system’s sun goes supernova. The astronaut then wakes up 22 minutes later to go through the same thing again and again and again — the player is stuck in a time loop, and they’re the only one who can prevent the sun from exploding.

While Outer Wilds has an intriguing tale, it’s not just a narrative game with a linear storyline. Players will also be able to freely explore its planets to find intel they can use to prevent the supernova from happening, or just to pass the time. It’s a unique kind of adventure, and we previously said that it was the perfect game for Xbox Game Pass, since it might be a hard sell. Now that it’s been out for quite a while on other platforms, Switch gamers may be more compelled to purchase it.

Here’s the game’s trailer from Nintendo Direct:

Here’s everything Nintendo announced during its 50-minute Direct

An 11th-hour leak may have spoiled some of the fun, but Nintendo still had plenty of surprises to share during its latest Direct. Over a brisk 50 minutes, we got to see the newest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighters, a new Mario Golf game and the latest project from Donut Country developer Ben Esposito.

Those were joined by Fall Guys, which is heading to Switch this summer, and Famicom Detective Club, a visual novel that will make its way to the US for the first time later this year. Nintendo, however, saved the best for last, announcing a Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword remaster and Splatoon 3. We’ve condensed all of the company’s latest announcements in the short video you can watch above.

Splatoon 3 will hit Nintendo Switch in 2022, complete with new environments, weapons, abilities and customization options. Nintendo revealed the game during today’s Direct livestream with an announcement trailer showing off some of the fresh features.

Splatoon 3 takes the color-spewing shooter out of Inkopolis and into the Splatlands, specifically the city of Splatsville. Splatoon 3 marks the return of 4-on-4 Turf War matches, and it introduces new gadgets like the Bow Weapon, which spits out three streams of paint at once. Nintendo promises to reveal more details about the game in the coming year.
