G2 Esports vs. Rogue: 2021 LEC Spring Playoffs betting analysis

Date:

Either G2 Esports or Rogue will face MAD Lions in the 2021 LEC Spring Split finals, and fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out who it will be.

The last match before the LEC final will be between defending champions G2 Esports and Rogue, which is looking to knock out the champions completely. This match won’t just be for the last spot in the final, but it could also be the first time in two years where G2 Esports won’t make it to the finals of the LEC. If Rogue manages to pull off the upset, then a brand new LEC champion will be crowned no matter what.

Before getting a rematch against MAD Lions, G2 Esports must keep its head cool and defeat Rogue. After failing to beat MAD Lions in the upper-bracket final, G2 must improve on an individual level going into the deciding lower-bracket final against Rogue. Fans expect G2 Esports to play at a world-class level, but the team is yet to do so in the playoffs.

On paper, G2 should be the clear favorite to take another trophy but the team synergy isn’t there. The team currently seems uncoordinated and has uncharacteristically thrown away big leads. G2 Esports has been known to play a chaotic playstyle for years, but for the first time, it seems that G2 isn’t in control of the chaos. MAD Lions were able to punish them on overaggressive plays, which needs to be fixed going up against Rogue. If that happens, mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Winther and bot laner Martin “Rekkles” Larsson should be strong enough carries to secure a win.

For Rogue, this will be the chance to dethrone the LEC kings and reach its first LEC final. Rogue performed well throughout the 2020 season and went toe-to-toe with G2 in the regular spring split. In the playoffs, Rogue also took a loss from MAD Lions but bounced back against FC Schalke 04 in the lower bracket.

Beating G2 Esports would mark a potential power shift in the LEC, with both Fnatic and G2 missing the finals. To achieve that, Rogue will have to take three games from G2 for the first time ever. Rogue has historically struggled against G2 to a point where it’s almost a meme, but this time Rogue will go up against a weakened G2 Esports roster so the chances have never been bigger for an upset.

G2 Esport roster:

  • Top – Martin “Wunder” Hansen
  • Jungle – Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski
  • Mid – Rasmus “Caps” Winther

Rogue roster:

G2 Esports favored in reaching LEC final over Rogue

Despite a very shaky performance against MAD Lions, it’s G2 Esports that will enter this match as the clear favorite. G2 Esports is the defending LEC champion and is usually able to perform under even the biggest pressure. Rogue showed renewed strength in its game against FC Schalke 04 but will have to pull off a better performance to take down G2. If G2 continues its shaky gameplay, then there might be room for a big upset and a guaranteed new LEC champion.

A win for G2 has odds of 1.43 while a win for Rogue stands at 2.62.

The important match between G2 Esports and Rogue takes place on Saturday, April 10.
