Four takeaways from the Summit Champions League Season 2 Week 1

The Smash Summit Champions League has returned, this time with a new more Nintendo-friendly name, with Season 2 Week 1 on April 11.

As with last season, it featured a unique format with players moving up and down through Divisions 1 and 2, with four competitors qualifying for Division 2 Relegation at William “Leffen” Hjelte’s LEVO the day before. Here’s a look at some of the event’s most shocking results.

Mang0 convincingly wins Summit Champions League Season 2 Week 1

Joseph “Mang0” Marquez looked near unstoppable on his path to first place during Week 1 of the Summit Champions League. Across his three sets throughout the event, he only dropped a single game.

Mang0’s run began with a dominant performance in the Falco ditto, against Avery “Ginger” Wilson. Then he faced off against Cody “iBDW” Schwab, who has never defeated Mang0 online. The set ended in an anticlimactic fashion, with Mang0 winning 3-0 after iBDW self-destructed during an edgeguard attempt on his last stock in game three.

Finally, Mang0 faced a predictable grand finals opponent, No. 1 seed Zain Naghmi. With his signature aggressive shield pressure and flashy combos, along with seemingly un-edgeguardable recoveries, Mang0 became the second person to defeat Zain more than once since the beginning of the pandemic, with the first being Johnny “S2J” Kim at Four Loko Fight Night.

Notably, Mang0 lost game one, leaving him with a steep hill to climb considering Zain would later be able to counterpick to Final Destination, Marth’s best stage against spacies by a large margin. However, Mang0 avoided grabs at low percentages, preventing Zain from chain grabbing him. Meanwhile, he established many of his own pillar combos using Falco’s shine. As a result, Mang0 won twice on Final Destination to secure a 3-1 victory over Zain.

Now, Mang0 says his goal is not to get cocky. He also won Season 1 Week 1 of the Slippi Champions League over Zain. However, he failed to make finals again after that week, and lost his only other match against Zain that season.

Moky proves he’s a Division 1 player

When the Summit Champions League Season 2 Week 1 lineup was first announced, Kurtis “moky” Pratt was dissatisfied with his placement in Division 2. He felt he deserved to be in Division 1 rather than Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma, who had been more active but had worse results.

As it turns out, moky didn’t have to worry about staying in Division 2 for very long. In his first match, he beat Jeffrey “Axe” Williamson 3-0. This included two wins on Fountain of Dreams, a stage where Axe is notorious for dismantling Fox players like moky.

As fate (or seeding) would have it, moky’s Division 1 Relegation match pitted him against Hungrybox. Despite winning game one, moky suffered hard on Hungrybox’s counterpick, getting four-stocked on Dream Land. But moky bounced back in the next two games. In game four, moky three-stocked Hungrybox on Battlefield to secure his first-ever win against Hungrybox and claim a spot in Division 1 for next week.

KoDoRiN wins and loses in unexpected match-ups

KoDoRiN had much to prove coming into Season 2 Week 1 of the Smash Summit Champions League. He was the final player selected to begin in Division 2, making him the last seed in effect. Even so, he had decent odds in his first match against Fox player Zachary “SFAT” Cordoni. SFAT is a player he has beaten before and a character his Marth excels against.

The set began with SFAT three-stocking KoDoRiN on Pokémon Stadium. Of course, KoDoRiN could then turn to Final Destination, a stage considered nearly unwinnable for Fox against Marth at high levels of play. However, SFAT proceeded to four-stock him on Final Destination. SFAT ultimately won the next Final Destination game as well, handing KoDoRiN a 3-0 loss and sending him to Division 2 Relegation.

After losing a theoretically easy match-up, KoDoRiN then faced perhaps the hardest possible match-up he could get in his relegation match: Justin “Plup” McGrath. As a top 10 player and winner of the LEVO qualifier, Plup was already a favorite to advance. On top of that, he mains Sheik, the character Fox mains usually turn to when they struggle against Marth.

KoDoRiN noted that he had been nervous during his first match because of the “big stage” of the League and the high expectations placed on him. But KoDoRiN adapted his mental game for his Relegation match and managed to score a shocking 3-1 upset over Plup. Notably, KoDoRiN was the only player who lost in Division 2 but won their Relegation match. Therefore, he will return to a very different-looking Division 2 next week.

Dacky unexpectedly secures a spot in Division 2

Amidst a field of top 50 players and online mainstays, Dat “Dacky” Vo faced tough competition even qualifying for the Summit Champions League Season 2 Week 1. Despite this, the Washington Fox main unexpectedly made a run to top four of LEVO, narrowly conquering Hugh “SluG” Hegarty and Colin “Colbol” Green in the process.

The odds were stacked against Dacky once again in Division 2 Relegation of the actual League. He faced off against Dawud “Aklo” Rahman, one of the mainstays from the first Slippi Champions League season. However, Dacky proved his proficiency in the Fox match-up by beating Aklo 3-1. As a result, he will continue to compete in Division 2 next week. Dacky is still the underdog amidst a group where everyone was ranked top 100 in 2019, besides him.

So, the Smash Summit Champions League provided some pretty big surprises for week 1 of season 2. More Division 2 matchups begin next week and we’re intrigued to see where things go.

[PRESS RELEASE – Please Read Disclaimer]

May 13th, 2021, Tallinn, Estonia — The new augmented reality matchday programme uses the latest AR technology to let fans bring the players into their living room. The creative concept aims to leverage Sportsbet.io’s matchday rights with the Gunners digitally, recreating the magic of matchday at home.

Augmented Reality Matchday Programme

The activity brings to life all the components of a traditional matchday programme with an innovative twist and includes Captain’s Notes from a virtual Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang alongside player profiles, quickfire interviews, footage from the training ground and an interactive AR squad selector that lets fans pick their team for the match ahead.

With the majority of matches from the 2020/21 season being carried out behind closed doors due to covid-19, the AR programme allows fans to enjoy one of the key elements of their usual matchday routine from the safety of their own home, and keeps them connected to both the players and the club.

Redefining The Fan Experience

Sportsbet.io are using their partnerships in football to redefine the fan experience by combining cutting-edge technology with their cryptocurrency expertise, delivering exclusive experiences that reward Arsenal’s large global fanbase and Sportsbet.io customers. The initiative is a demonstration of Sportsbet.io’s constant drive to innovate and the sportsbook believe that the role of cryptocurrency in sport is only going to increase.

The programme will be hosted on a private Sportsbet.io app and activated via influencers for the remainder of the 20202/21 season. The first two influencer activations went live in April, with world champion freestyler Sean Garnier and Entrepreneur come Gooner, Leo Dasilva.

Arsenal Football Club’s Commercial Director, Peter Silverstone, commented:

“We are always looking for new ways to connect and engage with our global fanbase and give them an incredible experience, whether that’s inside Emirates Stadium or in their own home. Sportsbet.io shares this attitude and approach and it has been fantastic to work together to deliver this new and innovative service to our supporters. Everyone at the club is extremely excited to welcome all our supporters back to Emirates Stadium imminently, but until then this programme is an exciting and innovative way of bringing fans closer to the players, and the action, than ever before.”

Virtual Reality Matchday

This is the second virtual matchday initiative developed by Sportsbet.io’s creative and PR agency Fuse for their Premier League club partnerships, alongside the virtual reality stadium tours delivered with Southampton FC. The initiative was developed by Fuse in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, working as a digital solution to activating matchday rights in a behind-closed-doors environment.

Tim Heath, Founder of the Coingaming Group, said:

“Across all of our Premier League partnerships this season, we have strived to use the latest in tech and innovation to try and bring a little bit of that magic of matchday to the fans at home. We are lucky to have two incredible partners in Arsenal and Southampton, who have got fully behind this mission and helped us deliver some amazing work. We are thrilled to be launching this new AR programme with Arsenal, and can’t wait to make the partnership even bigger and better next year.”

Production of both the 360 virtual reality content and augmented reality content was delivered by award-winning VR & AR agency East City Films.

The Overwatch support tier list for the month of May covers the best and worst heroes to use in the roll.

An all-new season starting in May also brings MM-Mei event to get a new hero skin from Mei Melee Tournament skin. The top four teams in the Overwatch League, two from the West and two from the East, will get in the ring and fight. With fighting, we have an all-new Tier list ranking of support heroes this month.

Mercy and her caduceus staff concentrate a beam of health to allies, restoring one to 100%. This support hero is all healing and can provide other characters a strong chance of fighting longer when Mercy has your back. Her Valkyrie suit enables flight, giving the player the ability to dodge incoming attacks and maneuver all over the map; giving the enemies a hard choice to take down Mercy or defend themselves from the opposing team protecting their support.

Moira’s healing abilities are strong and can also deal damage when enemies are bundled together. In close combat, she is extremely dangerous when launching biotic orbs that will bounce of walls back to her teammates. The support hero can also escape critical situations with fade, which lets her teleport out of fights. Moira’s ultimate ability is coalescence, which is a long-range beam that heals teammates and damages enemies caught in the blast.

Zenyatta’s harmony is dangerous, using the orb for destruction and healing this support hero makes the character a target in combat. Zenyatta does not need to alter the orbs between healing and attacking, but the downside is staying close to those in need; exposing the hero to danger. Zenyatta’s transcendence ultimately provides a healing barrier where ever it’s placed.

These two support heroes respectively can boost the team’s confidence. Their unique abilities can cover a large portion of healing from close-range to long-distance. Ana is the perfect hero to keep this support character at a distance and Lucio’s abilities are perfect for holding the point as the team is healed within range.

These two heroes are great for armor and damage support at the beginning of the match, helping the team last longer in a fight. Brigitte specializes in the art of armor. She shows support by throwing repair backs and healing allies when adding damage to enemies with her weapon. Baptiste shows characteristics of a damage hero, with his assortment of weaponry and secondary abilities that help the team push forward with offense and defense.

These are the support heroes that shift the battlefield with their unique abilities and skills on each tier for the month of May.

Warzone Cheater Banned During Live Stream

Prominent Warzone streamers may not run into hackers more frequently than other players, but when they complain about those hackers, developer Raven Software is more likely to listen because of their huge followings. When you’ve got four of the biggest names in Call of Duty streaming in the same lobby, the ban hammer drops just a little bit more quickly.

Streamers Jack “CouRage” Dunlop, Nicholas “NICKMERCS” Kolcheff, Tim “TimTheTatman” Betar, and Dennis “Cloakzy” Lepore were all playing together when they began repeatedly encountering a pair of hackers that would follow them game to game. Frustrated, CouRage decided to tweet Activision and Raven about the situation.

“Hey Activision and Raven Software,” he wrote. “I think it would be extremely beneficial to have someone watch our live-streams and ban blatant cheaters on the spot. Currently, there are two cheaters joining our lobbies and ruining our Warzone experience with about 150,000 live viewers watching.”

A few hours later all four streamers were spectating the cheaters as they worked toward another ill-gotten win when, all of the sudden, the player disappeared from the match. Raven appeared to have banned them. The streamers immediately celebrated Raven’s quick response.

Of course, it’s not feasible for companies like Activision and Raven to have someone on staff always watching streams to ban cheaters, and there’s some preferential treatment involved in this incident, but the net effect is one fewer cheater in Warzone. Players everywhere can celebrate that.

Overwatch tank tier list for the month of May, brings an all-new season for players to get a great start checking out this month’s catalog.

An all-new season starting in May also brings MM-Mei event to get a new hero skin from Mei Melee Tournament skin. Four top teams in the Overwatch League compete, two from the west and two from the east will get in the ring for the tournament. Besides the competition for the tournament, we have a Tank tier list of heroes competing for the top.

Reinhardt and Roadhog are two dangerous tanks enemy players keep a distance from.
Reinhardt’s massive rocket hammer takes out opponents with a few swings and his fast deployable shield makes him a strong tank character. Roadhog’s tank abilities allow users to go in at times by themselves to deal with teams, with his skill, take a breather, which allows users to heal themselves to last longer in a fight. This dynamic duo is a top choice for tank players to make a path for their teammates.

This tank is known for its energy bubble shields that protect. Zarya is a difficult tank to use, but with the right player using her, she is very dangerous. Her Particle cannon uses a short beam of dangerous energy and can throw explosive charges to enemies. Winston the scientific tank, can cause a great deal of damage on groups of enemies bundled together.

These two mobility tanks can get to any location quickly. Wrecking Ball is a high mobility tank that rolls across the map. Quad Cannons can rip apart enemies at a medium range. Grappling Claw can clear the way for allies and minefield long-lasting proximity mines can disrupt enemy strategies in competition. D.Va’s abilities and skills make her a very mobile tank. With the mech’s fusion cannons can lay down a great deal of damage. The boosters on the mech can give a great short-range ability to jump in or out of a fight.

Sigma, a tank that is an eccentric astrophysicist and volatile, launches pinpoint attacks on enemies. Experimental barriers can disrupt strategic attacks on enemy locations, causing the players to shift positions. Sigma’s skill and abilities are more in line with attacking rather than protecting allies in combat.

Winston the scientific tank, can cause a great deal of damage on groups of enemies bundled together. Tesla cannon can bundle the users ultimate quickly to launch a primal rage, causing the enemy players to shift focus and lose distraction of the objective.

Orisa is a great tank hero who can provide covering fire with the Fusion driver weapon. The hero is a strong anchor in certain scenarios when it comes to pushing the point and defending it with a protective barrier. Although a very strong tank, Orisa’s size makes the hero a vulnerable target when there is no one protecting her; with slow movements pinpointing an enemy with agility can be a downfall.

These are the tank heroes that shift the battlefield with their unique abilities and skills on each tier for the month of May.
