Fortnite Console Champions Cup was announced by Epic Games on May 6 with a start date set for May 14.

“Introducing the Console Champions Cup, the first installment of a seasonal console-only Fortnite tournament. Compete in the Console Champions Cup May 14-16 with a $250,000 prize pool across all regions,” Epic Games said in the announcement.

Epic Games also released a checklist in terms of how to participate in the event:

“The Console Champions Cup will be the first installment in a series of seasonal, cross-platform, console exclusive tournaments. We’re still making adjustments in the calendar for future tournaments, so we don’t have dates for the following seasons just yet, but we’ll keep you posted when we do,” Epic Games said.

“Don’t worry, we’re also still planning on offering additional platform-specific console tournaments with in-game rewards up for grabs, just like we did with the Switch Cup and the Aloy Cup.”

Godfall is getting a new DLC, “Fire and Darkness” for PlayStation 4/5 this August 2021.

Godfall fans are getting a host of new content according to the Gearbox showcase that took place during E3 2021 on Saturday, June 12. Not only will PlayStation 4 players have access to Godfall in all its glory—including a new cross play feature—they’ll be able to experience both the full Lightbringer update and the new Fire and Darkness expansion DLC.

Players are tasked with saving the Fire Realm, battling through a set of brand new enemies likely designed exclusively for this expansion. “Fire and Darkness” does require a separate purchase, however, those who buy it for either PlayStation platform should automatically own it for its corresponding generation. Unfortunately, aside from this brief information, there isn’t much circulating about the DLC.

According to the showcase, the update will include several pieces of content including a unique endgame matchmaking beta, over 40 “new loot items,” and 50 Valorplate skins—of which, let’s be real, Leo looks the coolest.

More information about the new expansion can be found on its store listing.

5 Things We Want in League of Legends Patch 11.13

League of Legends Patch 11.13 is coming soon, scheduled to arrive June 23. With this Patch ready to go live soon, there are some things that players are definitely hoping for in this brand new update. Patch 11.12 brought about the long-anticipated Dr. Mundo rework, and following that, players might be wondering where Riot Games will turn their eye to now. Here’s 5 things that players might want for Patch 11.13.

The aforementioned Dr. Mundo has been positively received by the community and player base so far, and we now know that Tahm Kench is getting a miniature rework soon. League of Legends is a game that thrives on patches and updates, and continuing to make lesser used champions more viable is essential.

This was something mentioned in our previous wish list for Patch 11.12, but still holds true. She shouldn’t be blasted all the way into unviability, but it wouldn’t be a bad thing for some balancing to occur. She is, after all, supposed to be a support, not a near-unstoppable menace.

Some of the Patch 11.13 changes have already been announced via PBE, and that includes some buffs, nerfs, and lateral changes to items. Not all item changes are going to be popular, depending on a particular player’s style and skill level, but the goal is always to give players what they need, not necessarily what they want. Hopefully we’ll see that in Patch 11.13.

Another piece of the patch mentioned in the PBE was new skins dropping, including the Astronaut skins for Corki, Maokai, Rammus, and Veigar. These new skins look good in the splash art, and hopefully will look nice once players can see them in game. League of Legends fans love their cosmetics, so continuing to have good-looking skins should be a priority for the development team.

It seems out of all the champions, the junglers seem to get the short end of the stick more often than not. Udyr received a massive nerf in Patch 11.12, and some pessimistic fans might be expecting further damage to viable junglers in the current meta. Balance is a delicate struggle, so for now, it may be best for Riot Games to not do anything unnecessary to junglers, and take a more observational approach for now.

Meta Thread’s “Monday Night Meta” Warzone Tournament kicked off on Sunday, June 13.

The competition was 2v2 running on a double elimination structure with each duo needing to win the majority of matches out of 3. Essentially, each duos team who lost their matches in the main bracket were moved to the “Losers” bracket. These losing teams would be paired against other losing teams for a single round of combat. Losing again meant they dropped out of the competition while the team who made it all the way to the best of the worst could face off against the main bracket winner.

Here’s how it all went down.

First place went to the duo team of Gavin “UnRationaL” Ackley and ScummN, taking home a total cash prize of $1500 USD. They were able to sweep their competition, the team comprised of Aydan “Aydan” Conrad and Riley “zSmit” with a score of 0-2.

Fortunately for them, Aydan and zSmit’s efforts were not in vain, as they also managed to snag a cash prize of $500 USD.

UnRationaL and ScummN were able to keep their heads above water, knocking out Shlay|Lamxte and picNick|Nickool in the first two rounds before being sent to the Losers’ bracket by Destroy|Zlaner in Round 3. Once there, they managed to beat duos Newbz|Riv and Frozone|Ahtract for redemption against Destroy|Zlaner.

Aydan and zSmit had no trouble making it to the winner’s circle in the main bracket, absolutely demolishing duos Frozone|Ahtract, Fifa|Jukeyz, and iSmixie|Flxnked before trading Destroy|Zlaner for UnRationaL|ScummN. Unfortunately for them, that appeared to be their downfall.

Meta Threads broadcasts their tournaments on their official Twitch channel. The complete bracket for this competition can be found on Challonge.com.

Apex Legends developers have news to share concerning the status of Ranked Arenas in Patch 9.1, according to Ryan Rigney.

Rigney, Respawn Entertainment’s Communications Director, took to Twitter to tell players exactly what’s going to happen with the recently released mode as the first patch for Season 9 drops. With Arena gaining more momentum and popularity among Apex fans, several are wondering when the developers will take the mode to the next level.

Here’s what Rigney—and the development team—had to say.

Unfortunately, those anticipating a Ranked Arena mode will have to wait a little longer. Rigney published a tweet via his verified Twitter profile noting that Ranked Arenas are “not planned for 9.1 patch.”

According to him, it needs “more time in the oven”—which is to say it needs some more time in development before the team feels comfortable releasing it to the public. He felt the need to clarify the roadmap for 9.1 after watching a stream by Dezignful.

Despite a few sour outliers, the playerbase seemed to take the news well. A handful even thanked Rigney for the heads-up in the replies, regardless of what the information actually was. Among the most common sentiments was that it was better to have a finished product than a buggy one.

Patch 9.1 will launch around the end of June. While the patch notes have yet to be published at the time of writing, the patch will allegedly contain new maps for the Arenas mode as well as a host of balance changes.
