Fortnite and Marvel Crossover Events Are a Win-Win for All

Date:

The Fortnite World cup 2019 crossed $30 million in prize pool but the game was already very popular before. The game has a large player base and the regular crossover events have only contributed to Fortnite’s success and ever-growing popularity.

Epic Games has been responsible for bringing gaming to the mainstream media. The popular battle royale game counts prominent sportspersons and celebrities as players, who often speak up about the game on social media. The infamous Drake-Ninja stream broke multiple records and was a watershed moment for Fortnite’s popularity. Chapter 2 Season 4 has brought forth a Fortnite themed crossover event to the battle royale game.

Season 2 Episode 4 merged the Marvel universe to Fortnite in yet another collaboration between Epic Games and Marvel. The season, ‘Nexus War’ has popular Marvel superheroes to defend the island from the planet-destroying Galactus.

Galactus’ arrival could trigger unforeseen changes to the map, including the possibility of a new map. Epic Games has used events in the past to bring about massive changes to the map. However, this time, Fortnite players will have some help from the Marvel superheroes to defend their beloved island.

Wolverine is one of the characters that joined Fortnite in Chapter 2 Season 4. True to legend, Wolverine has regenerative abilities and can be a tough challenge for some players. The Marvel character regenerates 2 HP/second making him tanky and difficult to kill. His lunge ability allows him to close distances quickly and deal lethal damage in a short time.

The Wolverine skin is locked behind a battle pass. Players need to complete weekly challenges to unlock various cosmetics in the game. Players can complete challenges to unlock loading screens, emotes, skin, banner and pickaxe.

Here is a list of the weekly Wolverine challenge rewards in the Fortnite event:

  • Week 1: Berserker Barrage! Spray.
  • Week 2: Adamantium Slash loading screen.
  • Week 3: Wolverine’s Trophy back bling.
  • Week 4: Ferocious wrap.
  • Week 5: The MCG (Wolverine Vol.2 #145) glider style.
  • Week 6: Wolverine outfit, Weapon X emoticon, Wolverine banner, Snikt! built-in emotes.

Fortnite and Marvel’s first collaboration was in 2018 when AVENGERS Infinity: War characters appeared on the island. Players had to collect the six infinity stones to turn into Thanos, a villainous character in the MCU with a significant power advantage. This time around players can play as Wolverine after unlocking his skin by completing the various challenges.

How to Find and interact with Wolverine?

Where to find Wolverine?

Wolverine can roam around the map as he is a walking NPC in Fortnite. While there is no specific location, Fortnite players can find Wolverine around Weeping Woods and Slurpy Swamp. These locations are visible near the bottom left of the map.

Wolverine usually roams around Weeping Woods and Slurpy Swamp on the map. Players should scout this area for a while before they spot the Marvel character.

There is only one Wolverine per map so players have to be quick and efficient in their scouting. Fortnite players should quickly search the area for Wolverine which is just the first step in completing the challenges.

Wolverine is not locked down to a specific part of the map; however, many players have reported finding him near the sewage plant at Slurpy Swamp or near the pipes at Weeping Woods.

How to Defeat Wolverine?

Fortnite players should maintain their distance from Wolverine because as soon as you start attacking him, Wolverine goes on the offensive. Wolverine’s attack deals significant amounts of damage and a couple of hits can often kill you. We recommend using an assault rifle to deal with Wolverine. The Assault rifle allows you to deal damage from a distance and stay (relatively) safe.

Once Wolverine starts attacking you the only course of action is to run and dodge his attacks. Close range combat with Wolverine is a losing battle and players are better off fighting the Marvel character from a distance.

Here are some tips to help fight Wolverine:

  • Build walls and maintain distance.
  • Scout Wolverine’s location using a car or a choppa.
  • Use faster weapons such as assault rifles to damage Wolverine before he closes the distance.
  • Don’t fight with Wolverine at close range. Wolverine’s claw damage is very high and can kill you in a few swipes.

Most of the Marvel content is locked behind the Fortnite battle pass (which costs 950 V-bucks). The map has several Marvel-themed additions including a SHIELD helicarrier for players to wait before the start of the match.

What Does Epic Games – Marvel Crossover Mean for Fortnite?

Fortnite players also unlocked other characters including Iron Man, Storm, Mystique, Wolverine, Doctor Doom, Groot, and She-Hulk.

The Epic Games – Marvel partnership makes sense for both parties. The partnership allows Epic Games to market Fortnite to a broader audience. Epic Games has been one of the pioneers for mainstream attention to gaming. Several prominent sportspersons such as Andre Drummond, Alex Ovechkin, Gordon Hayward, Karl-Anthony Towns, Derrius Guice and more have gone public with their Fortnite experiences, bringing new fans to the battle royale game.

Marvel has doubled down on its crossover events with Avengers: Infinity War, Borderlands 3, Marshmello, Tenet and more. The Disney-owned company has also been promoting the crossover event on its website and comics.

“One of the most exciting things about the crossover is how naturally it keeps a foot both in Fortnite and the Marvel Universe,” Marvel Comics editor Mark Basso said in a statement. “We had a lot of great creative discussions between Marvel and Epic Games about where our storylines could cross over naturally, and seeing how prime a target the Fortnite Island would be for Galactus, who [Thor writer] Donny Cates had already been exploring in his Thor series, set the whole thing into motion.”

Marvel has included a reference to Fortnite in its comics, which could be a precursor to a potential Fortnite comic book in the future. If that happens, it opens up the Fortnite universe to further opportunities and potential expansions. Who knows, maybe we will see Fortnite characters in a Marvel movie in the future.
