Peppe “Peppzor” Borak is the latest addition to fnatic‘s roster, the organization announced on Thursday, unveiling the 18-year-old player as their sixth member. The addition of the rifler comes at a point when fnatic dipped to the edge of the top 20 in the world, with the Maikil “Golden” Selim-led squad hoping a new approach will help turn things around.
Team coach Andreas “Samuelsson” Samuelsson described the new signing as “one of the best young talents in the game”, that “plays a rifle role, often as an anchor”. He will be integrated into the team “slowly but surely” and grow into the role as the sixth man. “We will find our own way to be as efficient as possible with this new structure”, the coach concluded.
The experienced side added another youngster to the fold
In their announcement, fnatic note that they don’t know whether extended rosters are here to stay, but “an injection of something different into our team is a risk we believe is worth taking”. The decision to take on the six-man approach comes after competitors Natus Vincere and Vitality have moved away from the direction, benching Egor “flamie” Vasilyev and Nabil “Nivera” Benrlitom, respectively.
“As other teams have experienced, a six-man roster is not yet a perfect system, but for now this experiment will give our roster a much-needed shakeup, while allowing Peppzor to develop his phenomenal talent away from the pressure of official matches,” the statement reads. As of now, fnatic‘s active lineup will remain unchanged.
fnatic have also confirmed the role change in the team, with Jack “Jackinho” Ström Mattsson set to continue as the main AWP, while Jesper “JW” Wecksell has switched to a rifling role.
Additionally, the organization hinted at a possible move away from a fully Swedish lineup in the future. “We are immensely proud of our history as a Swedish organisation”, the team says in the statement, “however, we are not satisfied with the status quo, and our decision to remain as a fully Swedish roster has its drawbacks in terms of the available talent pool that can integrate immediately.”
The possibility of adding international talent is something fnatic will “continue to review as this lineup develops”, with a move away from the Sweden something they are considering in order to “bring Fnatic CS:GO back to the top of the rankings”.
