Financial Management Software Provider Wave Financial Introduces Banking, Bookeeping Solution for SMBs

Published

on

Canada based Wave Financial, an established provider of financial management software for small business owners and entrepreneurs, has introduced Wave Money, a banking and bookkeeping solution for small companies.

Wave Money doesn’t require users to pay banking fees. It has a built-in bookkeeping feature and allows users to instantly access their funds.

As noted in a release shared with CI:

“Wave Money, along with Wave’s … financial management software, [aims to] empower small business owners to take control of their finances while creating more time for them to spend on their core business.”

The average Wave business reportedly pays over $425 in banking-related fees each year. With Wave Money, users need not pay these fees and there are also no account minimums. The company claims that they’re the only industry participant to offer a business bank account that can “automatically” manage bookkeeping.

As mentioned in the announcement, Wave Money offers automatic expense categorization, which should make it easier to keep track of operational expenses by users who have “little prior knowledge or experience, so that they’re always ready for tax time.”

As explained in the release, Wave Money allows companies to manage their business income and spend in one place with “real-time bookkeeping, resulting in tax-ready records at the end of the year.”

The release further noted:

“[Wave Money provides] business bank accounts, debit cards and a mobile app so business owners can deposit funds, spend with the Wave debit card and manage everything in the Wave Money mobile app.”

Kirk Simpson, co-founder and CEO at Wave, stated:

“Few first-time entrepreneurs have accounting expertise. Yet, establishing good financial management and bookkeeping practices are essential.”

He added that Wave Money is made for business owners who enjoy their work, and not necessarily the tedious bookkeeping.

He pointed out that the company’s software is free to use and can make managing small business finances easier, even for people who don’t have a lot of experience.

Wave Money claims that its clients have access to one of the largest free ATM networks in the US. The company also helps businesses make payments to vendors and contractors through email, send and receive ACH transfers, and deposits up to $250,000 are FDIC insured.

Simpson added:

“Many small business banks have fees, complicated record keeping and can take days to give business owners access to their money….It’s time the small business community has a free banking and bookkeeping solution.”

on

Switzerland-based Relai, the provider of a Bitcoin investment app, has revealed that it secured CHF 2.5 million in capital via a Series A round that was led by Swiss VC Redalpine. The funding has been acquired less than a year after the company entered the market.

Relai has also received funding from Polytech Ventures, Bitcoin-focused Fulgur Ventures, and ACE & Company, which is an investment group with more than CHF 1 billion in assets under management (AUM).

The proceeds from the investment round should allow Relai to develop a proprietary broker for fast and efficient order processing and introduce new product offerings for investors who are interested in purchasing large amounts of Bitcoin (BTC).

With its own brokerage services, Relai is also planning to offer features such as instant purchases (price lock), optimizing/enhancing execution processes, and also direct delivery to the user-controlled wallet of choice (either Relai or some other third-party).

Relai’s management noted that they are also planning to acquire a financial intermediary license to support their line of products and services.

Julian Liniger, Co-Founder and CEO at Relai, remarked:

“With our own broker, the Relai App will not only be the easiest, but also the most efficient way to buy & sell bitcoin in Europe. The whole team is proud and incredibly excited to receive backing from such top-notch venture capital investors like Redalpine, Polytech, Fulgur, and ACE, who understand our vision and trust us to deliver on our mission.”

Peter Niederhauser, Co-Founder and Partner at Redalpine, stated:

“We are impressed by the dedication, hard work, and rapid growth that the young Relai team has demonstrated in the last year. We want to help accelerate the mass adoption of crypto by easing access to its leading currency, Bitcoin. We look forward to being part of the journey and to supporting this exceptional Swiss early-stage startup in achieving global success.”

Canadian E-Commerce Growth World’s Second Largest

Published

on

The Canadian e-commerce market grew by 75 percent in 2020, the second-fastest rate in the world, data from eMarketer shows.

The stat is one of several describing robust growth for Canadian e-commerce, which for the first time in 2020 made up more than 10 percent of retail sales at a 12.7 percent clip. Total e-commerce sales reached $64.5 billion. Canada’s 75 percent growth was only eclipsed by Argentina, which saw 100.6 percent gains.

“The shift to online shopping was slower to develop in Canada than other countries, notably the US, so there was plenty of room to grow,” said eMarketer principal analyst at Insider Intelligence Paul Briggs. “The pandemic forced retailers to sell more online, and consumers lapped it up. Retail e-commerce surged ahead last year and is now a primary growth driver of retail in Canada in 2021.”

E-commerce’s share of total retail should expand to 13.4% this year and reach 17.2% by in 2025.

Total Canadian retail sales are projected to hit $481.4 billion this year, making it higher than its pre-COVID-19 level. In 2022 it will likely top $500 billion.

Klarna’s Second 2021 Raise Sees Valuation Top $45B

Published

on

Buy now pay later (BNPL) startup Klarna’s second raise of 2021 has it valued at close to 50 percent above its post-raise valuation in March. It now sits at $45.6 billion. The latest raise brought in another $639 million and was led by SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2. Existing investors Adit Ventures, Honeycomb Asset Management, and WestCap Group also participated.

In March 2021 Klarna raised $1 billion and was valued at $31 billion. Only seven months earlier it was valued at $10.6 billion following a raise of $650 million. Sequoia Capital, SilverLake, Dragoneer and Ant Group are among Klarna’s earlier backers.

Part of this latest windfall will go to a US expansion, which the company said has already attracted more than 18 million users. Klarna is live with 24 of the top 100 US retailers, so there is still plenty of room for them to grow.

As was recently reported, Klarna is said to be looking at an initial public offering in the US within the next year or two.
